thanks guys and especialy the other oldie returnees like me.

the consensus looks like a blade 400 due to the cheap running ( repair) costs and then upgrade to somthing bigger ( even though my heart says trex 500 or that gaui 550 )

my lhs has two in stock at the mo so that plus a spare lipo tomorow maybe.

what sort of spares package should i start to collect for the inevitable uncontroled return to terra firma.

Trex 500 FTW still.. I have had a B400, and you WILL get bored of it.

Chances are you wont want to keep the DX6i after you have seen the Dx7.

Get a sim, whilst you're saving that a 500, as it will cost a bit more

I think there is a pretty standard list for most helis which seems to consist of - spare blades, feathering spindle and main shaft. Depending on the severity of the bump you may need more.

I learned with my Blade 400 and was lucky enough to only need parts from the above list. The damage always resulted form me having a wobble while landing and clipping the blades on the ground or else clipping them on the wall while flying indoors.

Have to agree with Paul (Sacko) on this. If you get a blade.. you'll love it (because you have one).. but you WILL get bored of it. You'll be looking at upgrading the head, tail etc.. the plastic around the head just gets pretty sloppy quite quickly.

I still rate the TREX450 V2 over it any day. It has all the aluminum bits on it.. and is far stronger, easier to replace parts in a crash, and flies better.

..if you're expenses stretches further, the TREX 500 is a good heli aswell, but remember the cost of repairing a 500 is a lot dearer than the 450.

thats why i've decided on the blade as the repair costs of a 500 class would probably put me ( more likly the better half ) off. so start small and then upgrade to 500 class when a good used one comes along and migrate the dx6i into it.
since i do a lot of traveling having a 400 class in the back of car means i can hopefully put a flight or two in during lunch breaks if a sutible flying area can be found along my routes ( already spotted a few likley areas.)

my heart still says the guai 550 or trex 500 is the next step.

You'll love the Blade mate, no matter what some others say she's a great little heli, had mine a year or so now and still adore her. And since learning to fly with her I can fly in the garden so keeping my stick time up a bit. Albeit only hovering but I love doing that anyway. There's something about the 400 when she just sits there looking shiny and beautiful on a summer's day with the blades whirring and cutting the air....

i have to agree, i flew my blade on a field last week, i've got the blue flame canopy fitted, black sonix head & and tail, black landing gear and flying ff against pale blue sky backdrop, sun behind me, it looked bitchin !!!
ok, i've spent alot on it, it ain't no trex, but i love it !! even without mods i do think its a cheap but good heli to start with, and comes with decent radio that won't break the bank!
the trex 500 is a lovely heli, but rember the cost of batteries, your gonna want a few, then later on you might want a trex600 or 700, go nitro? you'll start evaluating things and might regret things, i'm not saying you will, but eventually you will want to move up.
                ( i've just bought a secondhand raptor30v2, not flown yet, but can't wait !)
