Fuel???

Sorry if these questions have been done to death and posted before but I have had a quick look and can't find the answer.
I have been given 2 bottles of Coolpower fuel with the heli I bought. It says 5% on the small label and is green in colour. Is this suitable for my TT39 engine or should I get something else?
Does fuel have a shelf life?

Coolpower is fine for your engine,the 5% means it has 5% Nitro Methane which is a power additive and thats also fine

If fuel bottles are sealed as new they last a fair time,i have used 18month old fuel like this no problem..If they have been opened the shelflife can be reduced..It depends how they have been stored..

I don't think that is heli fuel. You need 18% oil and 10% to 20% nitro. Coolpower does make heli fuel, it should say it on the bottle.

It will be heli fuel and 5% nitro is fine ..

5% is not a lot but is perfect for just stooging about,up until a while ago i used Model Technics Helimix 5% and did a full aerobatic routine and a bit of 3d..Bogging was a problem without careful pitch management but it did it

Sorry. Didn't realise you got 5%. All my OS manuals say 10% to 20% and I took it as that.

I think OS recommend 10% upwards for smooth consistent running,also the engines from the far east like a lot of Nitro as opposed to the european ones like Webra etc..

If it is Coolpower heli fuel then it will be fine,.

My personal fuel choice is now between Magnum and Techpower im a bit torn really..

I have used coolpower but personally i did not like it but it was OK

He may as well use it seeing as it came with the heli and then decide whether to experiment with another brand

Coolpower certainly is not the cheapest though

5-10% nitro will give you a smooth idle. From experience, the TT motors like a lot of oil. I don't know why, but when I got the TT70 PRO with my R60, I was advised to run 20% oil. Methanol is hydroscopic. It attracts moisture which looks like strands of fibres floating in the fuel. It doesn't really affect the engine that much, but will block filters. As long as the container is secure and stored in a dry place you should have no problems with shelf life.

The TT39's had a reputation for breaking. I'd strip it down and check the bearings, piston and barrel before running it, unless you already know its history.
