thanks very much for the replies, they have been very useful.

I have noticed scratches on the main shaft when it spins on one of the bearings.

I take it that this is the proble, and will replace it ASAP.

Surely this will not limit my flight times to 30 seconds though?

    cheers

I've used both the NIMH's that came with it and Lipos. I'll admit the lipos are pretty old but the Nimhs haven't been used much.

I'm at a real loose end with this thing.

that noise sounds like backlash from the pinion. try and loosen the motor and find the high spots of the main gear

30 second flight time... I had the same problem with my king 2 untill i got the Upgrade one. The motor could be Crap and burn out then work for 30 secs then go back to sleep.

I would take the motor out and run it up to full. and if the motor goes down by itself then its fu*k and burnt out.

If you can get a new motor or a upgrade one
I left the hobby 3 years ago and discovered Women.

            I wish I never left.

Sounds like a bent mainshaft - I've had just the same noise. It's very difficult to see slight bends in these by rolling them on a flat surface like a mirror.

So the best way to check them it is to gently roll it back and forth on a flat surface and try to get a .001" or .002" feeler gauge to slip under the centre of the shaft. A bend of just .002" will cause the noise you mention.

Only other problem I can see is if it's been used for any length of time like this the main gear will be worn off centre so will need replacing. So if funds allow I would change both the shaft and the main gear. Should fix it.

EDIT I wrote the above after viewing your second vid. Just viewed your first one and that it is definitely a knacked motor. They make that noise just before they let go. Would also explain your lack of lift/flight problem.

thanks very much for all your help, you've been very helpful!

So we're going more towards a bad motor? I've uploaded this video of just running the motor:
                [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LL6nIn_Pwg]YouTube - Movie 0002[/ame]

Can you tell by the noise? Are there any obvious symptoms, or is the fact i'm getting 30 seconds flight time enough

If you're sure it is the motor, can you give me an example of a good lipo battery, because I think a good lipo would be a good investment!

                Thanks,
                Andy

                  Fast Lad Performance

you will need a lipo charger for this battery aswell

best thing to do is ring fastlads and ask them if the have a cheap balance charger for this lipo

where abouts are you in england?
