Heli Cleaning

Does anyone use a mini compressor to clean their heli’s of dust and dirt?

So far I have used a small soft brush to get into all the small areas, but am worried that I would damage sensitive electronics or wiring. So I though maybe a small compressor of some sort would be good.

Are there any recommended cleaning practices / procedures?

At the moment all I'm using is a soft cloth and some Mr Muscle window cleaner.

How could a small soft brush damage wiring or anything else - sounds fine. A air line would be ideal though !

just fly it the dust and dirt will soon blow off :-)

If you use an air line, make sure it has a moisture trap - you dont want to be blasting water in to them servos / connectors etc!

I think the soft brush is a beter idea than useing an air line.

I agree, I personally use one of those damp cleaning cloths that comes in packets these days, and use a small screwdriver to push it around in the small areas my fingers can't reach, all the crap sticks to it, and it dries really quickly, obviously I don't use it on open electronics, although it would be fine if no power is applied, as it evaporates and dries quickly.

I use baby wipes, no joke they are perfect for the oily bits.

Must agree baby wipes are the way to go (cheapo version) i also have an airline in my work van

I just wipe the dead flys from th blades and thats it.

The frame seems to stay pretty clean

I think air would force dirt and grit into places you don't want it to get. I find baby wipes too creamy most of them have some sort of bum softener in them. I find cheap cleaning wipes from Netto or Muck off from a cycling shop the best, I find it better to clean by hand as you spot things that you might miss otherwise. Once dry from the wipes I use a 2" brush to wipe the dust off.

I use expensive baby wipes with lotion and moistureiser and stuff to keep my servo's soft and smooth, like a babys backside.

I usually clean mine throughly when I strip and rebuild it after a crash, sadly that's a little too often for my liking, although they're getting further apart!
I usually use the Schumacher Nitro Cleaner which I spray onto a cloth and wipe it over and if there's a really grubby bit I'll spray it directly onto the heli and then wipe it. This stuff evaporates quickly and leaves no residue so if I have to spray it directly on the heli I don't worry about moisture being trapped in anything.
