  • Recommended newbie book/reference source

    Hi
just asked a question about throttle hold and thought - there are so many other basics that I have questions about. You guys are great but I wondered if there is a recommended book or source of info for beginners to asnwer the basics - like the sticky thread do for some things?

What do you guys have/use (or what did you use before you got to know your way around as so many of you do now.)

    thanks

Trouble with the internet sometimes is that there is soooooo much of it. I have learned loads from it - well mainly from here really! Maybe me thirst for knowledge is just making me feel frustrated.

Got the bug something chronic! can't get enough of it and I've only flown on one day!

You could try RC Heli Wiki for a start, for example:

Do yourself a favour and buy Russ Deakins book A Comprehensive Guide to Model Helicopter Aerobatics, take no notice of the aerobatic bit. He explains things brilliantly. In fact if you want it Pm me you address and I'll send you a dog eared copy. I've moved on because of it

Joining a club will be a huge help to you. I wish I did that when I first started flying.

Ask any questions you like on here no matter how basic you think they maybe. Everyone is really helpful here.

              Raptor Technique

Read this guy's website. Yes it is for a Raptor but all the knowledge is there.

              And this website

A heliwiki! Never knew of that one!

I've joined up with some local flyers who are shoing me the ropes and grateful for it I am too! But ny thrist for knowledge is 24/7!

                As for that autorotation expanation!!

I think the Throttle Hold on the wiki gave me a good pointer. (I'm going to read more on that site now!)

I'll take you up on the kind offer of the book - very grateful - thanks.

I was going to mention Finless Bob. I had started visiting Helifreak before I discovered rcheliaddicts and here's some very good info there in Bob's 'tech room'.

great resources - thanks everyone - I think that there is enough to read there to keep me going in between flying sessions!

                              Hi!
I'm with you re books .. yep www is fantastic but sometimes I feel a good book is a good reference point. After reading various books, I foud the book by Dave Day is quite good although a bit dated.... but basic principles of flying helicopters have not changed. Details are as below:

"Flying Model Helicopters" by Dave Day. ISBN 978-1-85486-203-0
Publishers : Special Interest Model Books, Dorset (2005)

I think it cost £9.00. Hope this info is helpful
