dragonfly 35 any good ?

hi,
just ordered a walkera dragonfly 35 with extra battery , im new to all this & hope my choice is ok ?
i currently have one of those cheap syma's off of ebay & love to fly that !
eventually going to get a nitro , somthing like a hirobo shuttle , one of which i saw on a carboot sale yesterday. it was brand new shop soiled but with engine & all running gear but no radio. the guy wanted £75 for it..... would it be worth that ?
if so i hope he's there next week !

stay well clear of walkera helis they are very very low quality.

as for the shuttle it depends what servos engine and gyro it had with it and if it had any upgrades.

there is a shuttle a club mate is selling look in the classifeds section. Or there will be when he puts the post up. Its on the BMFA classifieds too.

Walkera helis are not good cheap for a reason you get what you pay for applys.

Both me and a mate bought a pair of Walkera 36's back in April, which is a clone of the Protech Zoom400. We were after a cheap heli each to have some fun with and basically get us back into the hobby after a bit of an absence.

The first flight....

The batteries were useless, gave around 2 minutes of power then died. (All before the heli lifted off, which it couldnt)
The Supplied charger was dangerous and overheated, the electronics were glitchy and of poor quality and the mechanics of the heli were a joke.
So much play in the head it nearly chicken danced out the door.
Spent the following days setting up, adjusting, and trying different batteries.
Just about flew ( 1 FT ) Then receiver blew....Replaced receiver then motor blew...Replaced motor then servo's went T*ts up.

Very pretty to look at but no use to man nor beast as a flying machine.

My mate also struggled with his & we've both flown helis for a while now.

Yes they can be upgraded, but we are talking lots of money and about every single part of the heli changing- Apart from the tailboom, which was nice. Which begs the question, whats the point?

I patched it up & slung it on ebay and pretty much got my money back, which I felt very guilty about.

Sorry its not what you want to hear Mark but thats Walkera in a nutshell

The problem here is that your looking at £400 + to get your self a half decent heli (be it electric or nitro). Most people new to the sport (me included) don't have that money to spend while not knowing if heli flying is for you or not, and the cheap helis (walkera etc) look like a good start.

I have a 4ch walkera and it flys ok. I think if you are used to large nitro helis or something like a trex than the flaws are going to be allot more evident. For the money Im very happy with my walkera and IMHO feel that they have an undeserved bad reputation.

maybe i should point out bandicoot's walkera is the only walkera i have flown that actually flies.

sorry. walkera need shooting for putting these pieces of rubbish on the market. the occasional one staggers into a hover. the rest are only fit for the bin.

unless they have changed them a lot in the past 12 months. which i doubt.

very cheep parts...complete right-off,,,,cost u 28quid to get it flying again..
..controls are sloppy....but are great fun...to fly..

36...or the 60,,,,versions....

u need to change the motor and controler..(li-op are a must,,,also resiever needs changing to,,,

these boys are wicked for parts,,next day ..you get them ,,,are spot on ..

Not all bad

I picked up a Walkera 36 (Dragonfly) in Thailand and have found it nice to fly at my very limited level. The design is elegant and good to have a belt drive for the tail - much more robust than shaft and pinion. The blades are also very nice - much tougher for minor scratches than the film covered wood blades of the Twister 3D and the glass fibre blades are very nice.

I think the radio is good - inside it's a bit rough but OK and I had no problem changing from Mode 2 to 1 to fit in with my other gear. The radio set up is also much easier than my Futaba 6 programmable via DIP switches. The instruction manual is also very helpful but lacks an exploded diagram. The main shaft is also much tougher than the ali shaft of the Twister and the flybar has precision grinding to help set up the paddles and mixer linkage.

Yes the battery aint much good and the charger is very dodgy - gets very hot. The plastic ball linkages are also very fragile and I have been over super gluing most of these on the rotor head.

Oh the gyro is superb - so good that I am getting one for my Twister 3D after having two Telebee's which I think are a pile of dung.

Soooo - I don't think it's all bad - I certainly would have got on much faster and spent far less money with the Walkera 36 rather than the Twister 3D after I was hooked with the Twister Medevac which still gives me much pleasure.
