Where to test fly heli's

Being a newby to the hobby, I have so far flown my 2 co-axials in the living room and my larger models like B400 in wide open spaces in the desert (Namibia).

I am aware of BMFA registration and insurance etc, all the safety matters and concerns and so forth and will be registering shortly, as well as joining a suitbale club.

My query is really whether one can fly or test run/ fly one's heli's in a large open park in our UK suburbs - i.e. not a dedicated flying site / club. Is it generally acceptable, taking all safety, environmental, and noise considerations etc in account. I mean, if you quickly need to do a hover check or so on a larger electric heli (eg B400, Mini Titan), can one just go to your local park?

At the same token, is it accapetable to fly a co-axial (weather permitting) in your local park?

I have seen guys flying fixed wing "park-flyers" in my local park, so was just wondering.

hi there,you can fly your heli anyware as long as you have the land owners permission,and with the bmfa insurance to cover you as long as you go by there guide lines.and as in parks/public areas the same applies but!you must check for any bye laws that excempt this activity in this space ,so please check with local councils etc,just because you see someone flying planes it doesnt mean they have permission to do so,good luck,i went to see my local agricultural farmer and with no probs .as he has no live stock and i only use a very small amount of field.

In terms of council bylaws that may apply to flying a heli (or aircraft) in your local park, should one contact the local council inthat respect? Or are these by-laws covered in the sign-posts they have up at the entry to a park? Normally these tell you what you can / cannot do.

Someone might come in and correct me - I came across a post mentioning that the T-Rex 500 is classed as a Park Flyer! Personally I found it/Still find it hard to belive?

I fly in local parks and fields with my 250 and last year flew with my 500 in the same parks, I've not been told to move and one of the parks has a confernce room thing where the council have montly meetings - They have stopped and watched me fly before, so I'm sure you could fly in the majority of places. If they didn't want you to there would be some kind of sign I would of thought.

I fly in local parks too... thing is to be aware of where people are and try to stay in a area which is safe to you and the general public.... You probally will be breaking some bye law.. but if you respectfull of other people's freedom to roam then you should be ok

every model I have owned has been tested in the right place...

A club where if anything goes wrong there is space and less chance of it hurting anything, and that includes 450 size machines.

Those flying in parks just help give us a bad name... Yes some parks/commons it is allowed but general not the brightest idea. T-Rex 500 a park flyer LMAO

And when the idots walk between you and your heli blocking the view, what the dogs off leads bounding upto the heli? Kids running around?

IMO not exactly the best place to fly in if against a by-law

you must be careful in parks...i did it...one minute im alone flying around next minute dogs running across field and people walking in front of me blocking my vision of said heli.

a club is a lot better place to fly for definate.

hhow about if you've just moved to a new rented house in the country and your landlord has 250 acers of huge fields! (and i keen interest in model helis since he saw mine) can't complain he's even cut me a heli pad in the grass!

does he have any other houses to rent lol
the best place to fly is a club you meet people with the same intrest and you will learn a;lot more from other people
who will help you as much as they can (just remember we are all in this money spinner hobby) so the help you would need is not in a park but a club
