  • Inspired!!

So it's here again, just a quick one this time..

Been having a great time flying the T-rex (whenever i can really), some times just for 1 tank (just to keep the fingers memory).. I am very comfortable with my hovering now (i woud not say mastered yet) but not too bad and am quite confident moving the heli around.. Just in case i'm only talking tail in and about 45 deg on either side

My main priority over the last week or so was to turn the heli from side to side using the rudder and aileron (as i have been only using the aileron so far) and i'm starting to progress with the maneuver..

Than comes the inspired bit.. So far i always had my TG on.. Although i am quite confident with my landing and take offs, some how it was comforting to keep them on.. The problem i realised was that i was using them as an indication of the heli's orientation.. So i had to keep on making myself look at the canopy and boom.. (it is a bit distracting though to have 4 massive red balls surrounding your heli!!)

So the other day, it was quite windy and the balls were causing the heli to vibrate.. So i set it down and took it back to the car and started to take off the TG with the intention of packing the heli away.. Once the TG was off though, i recalled a post that i replied to by Brian Gifford.. Where he flew his 500 without the TG and described how it was a lot more stable..

Inspired by this i started the heli and went back to the patch and spun it up and up it went.. I did not de-clench until i landed it however, very nicly and in one piece..

So for the rest of the tank i just kept on doing it over and over and i loved it!!.. Can't really remember how it was flying as i felt great about being free of the skid rotors

So today i'm off out flying with no TG.. might crash on landing, but at least i've moved on and they're not going back on again!!

So Brian buddy.. Thanks for the inspiration!

Another brilliant post, Mo. Thank you for the nice mention. I am so pleased you've ditched the TG. It's as much a psychological barrier as anything. I'm so pleased you are doing well.
