  • T Rex 450 or Innovator

Ok So I have had some great advice on these forums so here I am again,

I currently have a CX2 and a Hirobo Quark, The CX2 got old very fast but the Quark is great however both are a little light for outdoor flight so I am looking to buy another Heli within the next couple of months.

I was looking at T-Rex from 450 - 600 the 600 while being massive is very expensive for parts, so i'd rather go for the T-Rex 450 or 500, 450 being by far the cheaper.

The other heli I have been looking at is the Innovator, it gets great reviews and is very very cheap for parts.

both the Innovator and T-Rex 450 are about the same size, the big plusses the T-Rex has for me is that I can build it myself. The downside for the Innovator is that its electronics are in a all-in-one however this is so cheap to replace it’s not really an issue and I cannot build it the Innovator myself, the T-Rex downside is that I need to set it up correctly and I don't know if it would fly as well as the Innovator.

It might also be worth noting that I want an Electric as I don't want the mess of a petrol heli atm

    Thanks for any advice

out the 2 ... 450 size that you build from a kit .. theres just not trex's out there either in the 450 market ... After seeing a beam at the weekend .. if I where to go back to a 450 size elec then I think it would have to be the beam ..... but the trex450 is still a nice heli to fly and parts are cheap as well ... kit builds tend to make it so you understaned what does what and why ... and also you can add your own elecs so make it your own ...

Hi Ras2k2, I own a Trex 450 se, and i can say it was really good fun to build, set it up and test it, then see it fly.

It was my first ever heli build and though at first I was really confused and lost, I found that you can pretty much find out everything you need to build, setup, fly and maintain this heli on the web and from here aswell.

For setting up a Trex 450 se I'd highly recommend Finless Bob's build videos, they really helped alot! The trex 450 is great for outdoor flight and once setup well it is a joy to fly, watever your flying style/ability.

I don't know about the Innovator, but I hear good things about it. Hope this helps mate.

The big advantage of building yourself is that when you crash it you will have a good understanding of what needs repairing and how to do it -I don't know anything about the Innovator but for this reason alone, I'd choose the TRex.

And as said above, anything you don't understand about building or setting up the heli, you'll find plenty of people on this site to help you.

              The Beam is great
HDX (helidirect) is cheap and good. My "workhorse" 450 is an Align-HDX crossbreed.
Align - well you get more bang for the buck elsewhere, of course they do fly.
Check the "gotchas" with the innovator, for example do you really need "features" like dongled batteries
