Totally agree with the comments others are making here, these are hard for a newbie and I and still one so its still quite hard for me.
And although I can now hover okay tail out and both sides, nose in I am still making a mess of it.
For sure as others have said and thats what I found the hardest part with this heli when I first got one, was getting it off the ground, I was like a bit of throttle and it tilts over etc.
For sure you got to give it a nice push up and get some space under you and be ready to correct, but at first it was up and oh hell, panic and crash.
I agree bigger is better and have some bigger helis myself ready to be used, just wanted to be just a bit better on this, and hopefully that will be some benefit with the bigger more expensive ones.
I guess unless people come to places like this and read what the pros have to say, you would assume that a small model like this is good to buy for a total newbie, but I totally agree that these are really for pilots that already have the skills. But I have enjoyed learning on it and the worse bit for me was the darn motor brushes burning out so quick, but now I am brushless all round, should be spend more time flying than repairing
    Nice info and help guys!

Having recently broke the boom, (very weak) to calm it down I turned the paddles slightly upwards (Ade Laws suggestion, and a good one) but also turned the gain down on the gyro, this actually reduces the servo movement, I can lift off and hover mine in the confines of workshop and even do piros.

I run mine with the servo links on the outer hole, to get a bit more swash movement.

I also have the bits to do the bell hiller mixing mod, but I found it made the heli less stable and I prefer the way it flys as stock (indoors at least)

If you can fly on the sim Paul then I think you stand a decent chance of flying the 4#3B
Once you are past the difficult stage of getting it into the air and hovering then you will be ok.

I might be at the coventry connections indoor flyin in a couple of weeks.
If you can make it then you can have a go on my 4#3B, although I think you will need BMFA insurance to fly.
        Hi mike
It was my 4#3b ! I had a great day flying, thanks for invite.

        Your right not stock 4#3b
        MIA frame+ tuff skids
        Losi 11kv main Flea ESC
2g Hextronic tail Turnqy ESC useing 'Flea' firmware (very cheap way to get a flea esc but frickin hard soldering)
Mines abit of a dog at the sec. Needs lot of tlc but flys very well.

Its twitchy as hell, but I am a newbie to the sport as well to be honest, so I am just enjoying throwing it around at the moment. Spares are relatively cheap, and once you can hover the thing, it doesn't half give you a 'Buzz'... no pun intended..

            Enjoy...
I said it was quite difficult for ME to do this :P

I have broken quite a few tail blades, but my frame and skids are unbroken after many many crashes.

If you want a solid tail boom PM me and I will send you one.
If anybody else wants one I have enough CF rod to make four more.
I dont think I will be able to break mine so I dont mind giving the rest of the rod away.

I have only ever flown a 4#3b so no comparisons . Can hover tail in and getting there side on. I have loved every minute of it . One tail boom down and i actually have a brushed and brush less. Long story. First tail motor has just gone on the brushless and last time i flew the brushed it flew but something felt odd so suspect the main motor on that is on its way. Time to get the soldering iron out. I think the only other thing thats broken is split canopy and a tail gear shaft . Early days i crashed a lot. There things can take serious abuse. I haven't found it too frustrating, the 'how the hell do you actually fly this at all' period wasn't too long. Its so convenient being able to fly whenever you want and the strength and cheap parts have been great

                      ello

just thought I'd share my thoughts as a newbie starting out with the buzzfly CE. I've flown a few 3CH coaxial helis before this so not a complete beginner though the skills aren't really transferrable.

To begin with it was very hard, requiring total concentration just to get the thing to hover. After reading around a little I made a quick and easy mod which helped no end. Essentially there is some free play on the swashplate. By adding a half/third of a spring from a biro under the swash so it applies a little upward pressure I've eliminated the vibration which was giving me such an erratic hover and it doesn't seem to have effected its agility. I can now hover stick free for several seconds before it'll drift off.

With the stability sorted it has been great fun. I've had my fair share of crashes and replaced a number of parts but haven't ever been intimidated by the learning curve. After 15-20 flights I'm competant with tail in hovering/flight and have started on side in.

The booms are rubbish but I've found 3/32" aluminium tubing from a hobby shop makes a cheap and seemingly more durable replacement.

I appreciate what has already been said in that a larger heli might be easier to learn with, but for me the ability to practise in my bedroom anytime is a winner and given how little it weighs you have to really bash it about to do any damage. Spares are pretty cheap, the only real downside is waiting for them to arrive so I now keep a selection of spares to hand.

Flew it outside for the first time today in a wind stronger than I thought was wise. It was good fun though I did spend most of my time battling the wind.

If you did buy one I'd recommend the motor heat sink and training gear plus a few spares.
