  • Newbie Qs - CX3 and Spek DX6i

    Hi All,

Just got heli-hooked and then found Heliaddicts...probably the wrong order.
Brilliant site and wish I'd found it sooner.
Was given a simple 2 ch contra heli. V cheap and cheerful.
Bought a CX3, crashed a few times, then really thumped it when it suddenly shot up and hit the garage ceiling and then fell in bits to the floor. Now fixed.
CX3 came with Mode 1 tx and I think Mode 2 would be better; it seems more logical.
Question: if I now go and get a Spek DX6i mode 2, will I be ale to match it to the CX3......this is leading toward buying a Trex 450, but not before doing a lot more flying CX3 and considerable Phoenix (yet to buy) work.

    Thanks for any input.
    CX3 - Trex 250 - Phoenix - DX7........
CC 500 is built, finally tested ......and still in one piece...some of the time!!

In answer to your question, yes the DX6i will bind with the CX3. I have a CX2, an mCX and a T-rex 500 and the DX6i binds with them all.

    Welcome aboard!

I guess the CX3 came with the Spektrum LP5DSM? If so, read this thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=901046

Post #4 implies you may be able to switch modes on it.

Read posst 7 on this thread and here it says how to do it. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=625839

I'd still buy the DX6i but this fix would get you into the other mode at no cost.

Brilliant thanks. Will now give this a go pending the funds and arrival of other bits and pieces!

its very simple to convert the lp5dsm from one to two. its just a matter of changing around the circuit boards and ratchet assembly

Once again, thanks all for your input.
10 mnute job to change the LP5DSM from mode 1 to mode 2. Open the back, move the slider switch on the large board, move ratchet clip from left to right controller and spring centering from right to left controller. All now OK, though need to reset the offsets to get my steady hoever back again.
Good flying wx here today too!

An update. Went for the DX7 as that seemed an even better option.
ALSO, had more trouble with CX3. Set up and flying fine on the (new) Mode2 set up. Took it out of box next day and had the permanent left drift and circular moves (TBE?). Much searching later and found someone else who had the same trouble. Swash plate in two pieces and wobbly. Suspect that has been a problem from just after my buying the beast and causing all sorts of headaches when mixed with limited experience.
Clipped back together again and all is now normal. So simple and yet....now all

A common problem with the CX2 - worth adding a quick check to your pre-flight inspection.
