  • Got the blades balanced, but...

When I am practising the 1st / 2nd Battery on the RADD guide, the heli seems to be drifting in a SE direction along the table. I don't know if this is virbration or if this is normal. I can see a little virbation coming into play, & was hoping someone could shed some light on this for me please.

a heli will drift left - the tail rota stops it spinning but as it does so it will pull the heli left slightly as the force has to go somewhere.

Thanks. I know it does drift left somewhat, just that it is drift back as well indicates to me some vibration unless I am totally mistaken. Also what kind of throttle percentage is required to get airbourne? I get to 50% and I am still on the deck with the skids not getting light. I am going to experiment with the blade pitch tonight as I had problems with blade balance. Any indication would be great so that I know I have setup the pitch correctly and can actually get light on the skids without having such a high throttle

        What heli is it?

Where it gets light and where it gets airbourne are dependant on how it has been setup.

Sorry Honeybee CP2. I have recently had problems with the blade tracking so I racked all the pivot links to the shortest equal amount, tracked them , then bought them up one turn at a time. I will be turning them up a bit tonight 1 / 2 turns at a time whilst doing my tail control exercise to see when it will start to get light. Just thought that if I had a reference point in terms of percentage throttle, I would know when to expect the 'lightness'.

I'm not sure where they are designed to hover but on most helis you can adjust it to your taste. I have all mine setup so they hover at around 3/4 stick some people setup to hover at 1/2 stick.

I guess this is an all in one box deal with a basic Tx so i'm not sure how adaptable the Tx is. Are there no guidelines in the manual?

              Hi

The manual is quite rubbish and most of what I have to do is from the Net. I would not like such a low hover speed since it will be drwaing more amps, but at the same time too high and I will have no oopmh to punch out of trouble.

Also the pitch and throttle mix are preset electronically and the only adjustment that can be made is mechanically how much is mixed in at zero throttle.

Thanks for the indication though. I will try and get it setup to somewhere between 3/4 & 1/2 tonight and see how it all works out.

If the model is drifting backwards and left or forwards and right then the chances are its the paddles out of true. Make sure they are absolutely flat with the mixing arms flat and the swash also absolutely flat in both latteral and longditudinal directions.

I have seen many small electric models come out of the box with this problem so its not uncommon.

                  Cheers,
                  Pete.
