  • Soldering tips for Connectors

Hi, does anyone have a resource / DIY sheet for soldering of battery / ESC connectors? Am relatively new to the hobby and have only soldered connectors once before - the round gold pin connectors. I do have some Deans plugs and I hear / see these are supposed to be the best.

What I am looking for is for the soldering method itself - how much solder, any prep work etc.

Regarding Deans plugs, am I correct in saying that the female plug shoudl go on the battery ends?

Any help and comments would be appreciated, thanks a lot!

I've just done the same thing.

If you search for "soldering deans" in youtube, you find all sorts of help, for example:

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYhmzY5wQAA[/ame]

And yes, the female goes on the battery to prevent shorting.

There is also a protocol as to which is neg and which is pos. The pos is the horizontal pin. To illustrate this, think of a letter T:
T - the neg is the vertical pin, i.e. the base of the T, the pos is the horizontal pin, i.e. the hat on top of the T.

Ah great, thanks a lot!!! Am always a bit nervous when soldering. I have to say that I found the Deans plugs difficukt to pull apart at times and then scared of breaking something! I actually like the pin plugs and use the blue connector cover like you get with the Blade 400 / E-flite battery. Much easier to pull apart and i think these must be safe too!?

I'm too new to comment on which is safer. However, Deans seems to be the way that many people go. Must be a good reason behind that.

DO NOT!!!! Copy that guy!!! He made a critical mistake right at the start. He went ahead & exposed both the possitive & the negative wires on the pack. He's also got them hanging around exposed next to a pair of grips. If you copy this guy then expect to short out a few brand new lipo's. You will be better off watching the Finless video on Helifreak.

At the end of the day its upto each individual person what battery connectors to use ... I like some have always used 4mm bullets as I just found them easier to pull apart and connect up ...Choose which ones you want to ....

When soldering just do one connection at a time and dont uncover both connections , as you risk shorting the battery
