  • contra heli recomendation please

hi just been looking through dreaded ebay at the contra rotating heli's.

are the lama colco(maplins) anygood? or would i be better of with a lama3?
i only have £30 -£40 quid and want something cheap to buz around the house to try and mix flying with sim time, would prefer something i can maybe upgrade a little.

i have seen the cx2 and a few others but wat out of my price range.

    what do people recomend

second hand mCXs go for about £50. Thats would be my recommendation for an indoor heli.. A little over budget I know but they are great little machines and (almost) impossible to break and when you do spares are readily available and cheap. I just replaced the landing skids on mine and the parts cost 99p from ebay. Obviously a bit of postage on top but you get the idea.

Addtional cells are only about £6 too.

Don't go for the Maplin stuff - you will regret it! It's only 3 channel. As Martyn said above, best indoor coax is the mCX.

Don't want to get in a slanging match, Del, but I've got a Lama V4 which is the same size as a CX2, and I think they're a bit big for the average room, which is why I backed up Martyn's suggestion of the mCX.

I guess it depends on the size of the room but I would tend to agree that the CX2 is on the larger side for indoor IMO...

Also a good point about 4 channel control. If you are going to use this as a stepping stone into larger helis then getting a 4 channel heli is a must as it will help you enourmously (spl) as the controls will be the same as the larger out door helis. I went from flying my mCX and using a simulator to a T-rex 500 which has a rotor diamter of just under 1 metre, just to give you an idea of the size..

Just look at the number of poeple who list an mCX along side there larger helis in the signatures.. I think that's testiment enough.

No slanging match here i supose it does depend on how big your rooms are. I just found it suited me really well. And a few friends have flown it and thougt it was great.

                HI
personaly i would go to your local model shop and see witch one they carry the spares for and buy one of thoes.
Thers nothing worse than brakeing something and haveing to wait for spares.

I'd give another vote for the mCX - great heli but a little out of your budget if you're wanting to buy new.

just looking at ebay prices for new :

mCX's range between £80 and £95 delivered for the whole package and about £60 for the 'bind n fly' version for which you need your own TX which I presume you haven't got so that's no use for you.

Second hand as I said looking around £50 maybe up to £60 inc delivery for an 'as new', uncrashed example.

When I was looking for my mCX the shops were between £5 and £10 more than ebay for new kits but you have the luxury of walking in an talking to someone about it rather than buying anonamously (spl)

Since I've been on here I don't think I've seen an mCX for sale.. If it takes a few more weeks to save your money I would definately wait.

Definately the mCX, despite the extra cost. It's relatively easy and great fun. Just remember to shut the thottle if you get in trouble and you are unlikely to suffer any damage. The Cx2 is too big and brittle to start with in the average room - that's what I did but the Sussex Model Centre was good enough to exchange for the mCX which they recommended in the first place!
I still enjoy it while trying to get to grips with my HB CP2.
