  • Ashley, I bow down to your superior knowledge and testing but so far FP packs have stood up to my mild abuse, I've got 2 1800 3s packs I feel have gone bad prematurely but it could be down to my abuse...

My biggest problem with your favoured cells and setup is the extra hardware needed plus looking at Aurroras site the cell choice is pretty limited Oh and did I mention the price of the stuff

      • Phil,

        It's a limited choice yes I agree, on the T-Rex 450 there's 2000mah 3S and 1500mah 4S and for the T-Rex 600 it's the 6S 4800mah.
Which covers most options for T-Rex but outside of that I'm not familiar with the range of packs that aurorra can supply.

The extra hardware is all about running a 'protected' lipo system which stops the user from abusing the packs. So you can fly withot worrying about whether you flew too long, ran the pack low, over charged it or didn't balance it properly.

Like all things in life you pay a premium for the good stuff. At least that's the way I look at it.

        • this Trex600 pack is 6s although it appears to only have one plug on it, does that mean there is a 6s DPM unit as there are only 4s shown on the pages at Aurrora I think?

          • http://www.aurorra.co.uk/trex600.htm is where the 6s is featured.

I believe the DPM will work on the 6s.

I rang Mike last night and bought a 3s pack and we talked for over an hour!! Unbelieveable support and a fantastic guy. The 3s packs are very competitive IMHO.

I wish I could afford the 6s packs right now

            • There are two 6S DPMs, one for BEC and one for Opto isolated ESCs. I run an HV85 on my Swift and the standard Align ESC on the rex, so the opto is the DPM that I use as neither of these ESC have BEC capability.

              • Just a quick correction to my big lipo post, I always say 'copper' and 'nickel' (hang up from old battery technology) but in reality the anode and cathode are either Lithium cobalt oxide, lithium manganese oxide or lithium nickel oxide.
Flightpower use the more common lithium cobalt oxide, Kokam use lithium manganese oxide.

I also found out why generating heat improves voltage hold and my assumption was correct. Heating the internal polymer electrolyte increases the conductivity of the polymer gel, which allows better ion flow and therefore higher voltage hold under load.

                  • On assimilating more information from various biased and not so biased sources, I will still continue to use FP packs
