  • Greases, Lubes and Loctite

    Hello,

I know the title sounds a bit dodgy .. However, i have been quite lost with all these things..

I am looking at buying some of these and going to the web shops is just confusing as they have 10's of different product.. So what would you guys recommend for basic maintenance?

I have taken bits of my heli for the first time as i was fixing it yesterday, so i'll definitely need loctite (blue i gather) to use with the different metal on metal screws.

What else is needed as a part of maintenance and which shafts, bearings, etc.. need to be greased regularly..

Sorry if there has been a similar thread before, i would also appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction..

    Cheers,

    Mo

Try and get some quality tools as well. I brought a set of 4 Align alan keys from Midland Helicopters - these are fantastic. Replaceable heads too so presumably you can buy replacement parts if you need them. (I think it will take a l....o....n...g time before I'll need replacement)

I also brought a couple of different size philips screw drivers (harden steel) from Steve Webb Model Shop (Cheshire) - they are excellent quality and head does not get blurred after you have undone a couple of screws

The Align Hex set are superb, also buy the Aligh Philip's screwsdriver and 1mm Hex head attachment for easy F/shaft removal/reinstall, ball link pliers, a few different plier sets, selection of micro philips screwdrivers, again good quality not the 99p set of 5, they wont last 5 minutes.

Any thread lock is fine for metal screws to metal/alloy inserts, metal to plastic are usual self tapper screws and don't require thread lock.

make periodic checks on you moving parts at least once a week.

It sounds like you have it all under control.however a tube of super glue is also helpful, for those canopy cracks that can appear after on/off quite a few times.

What machine do you own, or planning to own Bro?

I wouldn't recommend using an aerosol can near your model. The propellent has a habit of washing the grease out of bearings.

Maybe the way to go is to buy a decent set of tools then, i have one of those £20 sets and already stripped the hex tools and the screw drivers are more like spears now

I have been repairing my Twister but as i'm gonna start flying the 600 soon, i want to be on top of all things maintenance and make sure no mishaps happen as a result of loose screws or seized up bearings

                      Cheers..
