Electrics Setup

Hi guys, I'm building a Beam E4 by following the Finless Bob guide, and have got to the part where the servos are tested and installed. I've had to stop here temporarily as I still need to buy a receiver and flight battery, which I plan to do today.

But, was just wondering whether the setup is normally done with the flight battery connected, as I'm sure I've heard of people using 'setup' batteries? I have zero experience with electrics setup as previously I've only had rtf helis, so I'd also just like to ask whether there's anything else I need to be aware of for setting up the electrics?

They may be talking about pluging a 4.8v pac straight into the reciver for seting it up.
Then the speed controller has no power so it can not spin the rotor blades.
I set my elecys up useing the flight pac but i disconect the motor.

Yes, that's what I've come across before....using a 4.8v pack to do the setup with. I'll ask in my LMS. Thanks.

dont buy one just to set up its a waist of money. just do it all useing the main flight pac.
just disconect the motor wires or pull the motor away from the main gear so if it spools up it cant drive the rotors.

Okay, I'll just get the stuff I actually need for flight and not connect the motor wires.

Thanks Ian, that's real good of you. I'll hopefully be getting the flight batteries, receiver and tail servo in next week, so yeah I'd really be grateful for some help. It's getting to that point in the build where it isn't just fitting parts together...so moving away from my comfort zone!
