  • My first question

    Hi all

I’ve definetly got my heart set on a t-rex 450se.

At the moment I’ve got my eye on 3.But I need to purchase a Transmitter seperatly.I am even less sure in this field.

I presume (perhaps wrongly) that I will need a 6 channel Transmitter.

Any advice on type preferred by you guys and where to bye would be most helpful and I’m most grateful for any feed back.

    Hi,

Transmitter wise I would go for the Futaba C7 - 7 channel -
ideal for helicopters for the money. Try All's Hobbies its about
    110 pounds.

Rember Nitro size 30's are easier to fly and setting up a T-rex will
    cost about the same.

Rember to vist a local club and get insurnace from the BMFA.

stay off the 6 channel stuff its mostly ultra cheap basic functions only and very small displays making them harder to navigate.

I take it you are a complete novice. The Trex SE is a nice model, has lots of pretty metal bits and it flies well. However, if you are learning, then it may be better to consider the lower spec models like the 450X, CDE, HDE or even the ARK X400 and twister CP. They cost less and you will not necessarily notice the differences in the flying characteristics.

Remember that although the SE costs in the region of £300-£320, you are going to have to buy servos, gyro, receiver and batteries. These are going to add an extra £150-£200 onto the price.

Alternatively, if you plan to keep with electric, but want to go a little bigger, there is the century swift or the new Trex600. The advantage with these models is they will take normal sized servos supplied with all radio sets. The swift retails at around £399 and includes a brushless motor, ESC and battery. The Trex600 is expected to sell for about £350.

to kit out a trex properly you are going to be looking at 600ukp for not a lot more you can get a 30 size heli going. Only downside is you have to join a club. Personally, if its a good club thats not a downside.

The SE includes an ESC, gyro and receiver when you buy it - so it's not a bad deal at all - although the said included parts aren't of the highest standard.

I'm selling both of mine in the classifieds and they have on the finest available parts for that model and a spares lot to make most gurggle like Homer Simpson! haha

As for the 600...I have one of those and the CF kit is £100 more than the 450 CF kit (se). All the servos are seriously more money than the 450 but you can use the same receivers. Everything else electronic is much more on the 600.

But you do get a bigger heli which is awesome.

Infacto....the 450 is a good choice and a brilliantly supported heli. I'm an electric heli guy so maybe I'm bias

                Not quite a novice

I'm flying a hummingbird at the moment. Can hover end in side on.woking on front in at the moment and slow ceicles(*spelling?).

It seams really hard to fly keeping the tail where I want it ,but my reactions are getting real quick.

I really dont want to fly with a club for a year or two until the children are a bit older and I can get away for a sunday and not feel guilty.

problem is you have to be careful with the t-rex even tho they arent much different to the hummingbird in size they run much much higher headspeed and have much more power behind them they can cause a lot of damage to people and property.

have a serious think about where your going to fly it. Your going to need a very quiet park or you risk hurting somebody or getting unwanted attention from local kids.

                      Ade's right
I've been lent a T-Rex SE and spooled it up in the garden and it's scary how fast those blades get before it even gets light on the skids. I thought I had a problem with my pitch setting it was getting that fast but it was normal
I'm reluctant to fly it in my garden now until I have flown it at the club a few times and got used to it (it's not mine and I don't want to bend it!).

                      Cheers,
                      Cheers, Lee.

                        T-Rex flying safely

                        Thanks for all the advice.

The good news is that I live at the edge of Exeter in Devon. I am surrounded by fields and friendly farmers. I am also in charge of health and safety at work .So I will do a risk assessment before flying. I think the only danger will be to myself (now that is a worry).

okay Trex is a powerfull little beast and those Blades can remove nuckles
                          easy enough.

Risk assement is easy blades spinning at mental speed not good in a confind
                          space.

JOIN A CLUB get it looked at and make sure its setup right. Even if you can only go a few times do it. A Indoor Club might be better though once a month kind of thing 1 evening is not a lot to ask of a partner.

                          Get BMFA insurnace.

A TREX CAN CAUSE A LOT OF DAMAGE!!! To yourself or property or someone esle.
