Speaking as a complete novice but if you can take off without any hoping or tipping and then land square and true I would say it could come off. Take my advice with a pinch of salt though...I am just at the spin blades up and down stage!

I think i got it in my mind that i was going to try, but thought best ask case i was looking at doing some thing very silly lol.

I have the odd hard landing but funny thing is with the CP gold is its got spindly struts that i cant seem to break, yet i kill the bracket that holds the horazontel fin on evey hard landing i do!

Its not slightly hard landings that are the problem, its when the heli is allowed to wander uncontrolled and one of the skids catches on the grass, which usually ends up with the heli tipping over.

Your ready when you can lift the heli hold it fairly steady move it around bring it back to the hover and then put it down with out it sliding sideways. and of course when you have the confidence and feel its right for you.

There is definately a downside with training undercarriages, theres extra vibration and weight, the heli doesn't fly as well plus, I have seen some trainig skids catching on the grass.
            All the best

I have a large piece of wood i put down as a heli pad and can take off and land back on it with not to much hassle (depending on weather conditions)

edit: i tried a few hovers in the front room and athough they where low ablout 2foot take off and landings were square on, no tips....yet

Basically mate, it comes off when you feel ready. No matter what anyone else says or thinks, if you aren't happy without it, then leave it on. If you feel up to flying without it, then lose it, you will get better quite quickly at landing once it comes off, added impotus of not wanting to see your beloved pride and joy doing the funky chicken on the ground.

I believe you should keep it on until you are confident in hovering in all orientations and can put the heli down gently. I myself only took it off once i could do all these things and also get used to hovering in idle up
