    Hi mate,

I started out few weeks ago. Advised to buy Phoenix from all the helpful people on this forum, and believe me... it is absolutely awesome!! I can hover most of the electric helis, and have already moved onto simple circuits already. Just using Phoenix enables me to 'sample' other helis I have heard about from other people, and hopefully decide whether to eventually purchase or not. OK, simming is alittle different to real flying, but the majority of users have said it so life like it is a 'must' to get before trashing your heli for real. Simming will give you time to have fun, and more time to ask more questions and find the heli you really want..... I'm still looking to buy my first heli, as my HBK2 is in bits (arrived in sub assemblies from eBay)

Enjoy, and please consider Phoenix... (a fellow newbie!!)

Thanks to all for all you information.

I will be getting the sim to mess about with, At heart i am IT tech who loves all things flight simmed so am looking forward to flying the sim with a rc controller.

I am a hands on person who loves nothing more than building technical things so building a heli from scratch is something for the future I know but still cant wait to get hands dirty.

I will keep all posted on my travel up the rc ladder as much as possible.

I'm in IT too and you'll get plenty of chance to get your hands dirty! My CX3 is currently in about 50 pieces while I change the outer rotor shaft. A 'small' crash stripped teeth from a rotor gear, which you can only replace by doing a complete strip down of the rotor head, but I trashed a bearing taking it apart so I'm waiting for replacement parts.

I'm flying the sim while I wait, and resisting the temptation to fly my Blade400 which I've spun up a couple of times with training gear on (that's another tip!!!) but haven't risked getting airborne yet!

When I can do lazy 8s on the sim this little baby is getting some air!

        F@*k, that sounded bad...

Well that is a nice heli and i can see why you cant why to fly her. I am going to order the sim tomorrow and I think i will order a tx with it, I have seen two mentioned on the site that seem good. at least then I can buy a bind and fly heli.

I went to see a family friend who used to fly Rc helis for some advice and on the way out of his house he said if I wanted I could go back at the weekend and pick up his heli as he no longer can fly it due to health problems. Now of course I will pick it up as I am just starting out.

The heli is a Align T rex 450s cf

He directed me to this sight as a ref :

Will this be any good to me later on my travel up the rc ladder or should I sell it on.
