Hello, well a couple months ago I got some great advice here about my first heli and got a CX2, having had the CX2 for a couple months flying everyday a couple times a day I was a little bored and wanted another heli.

So basically I started watching ebay for deals on Hirobo Quarks, I finally found one and bought it for £175 and I would just like to say its a really great little machine, so much more responsive than the CX2, anyway I have a new machine and new questions:

The Hirobo Quark batteries are 7.4v 480mAh these batteries retail at around £50, I was wondering if anyone can give me any advice on what battery I should choose as an alternative to fit with Velcro, and if needed a charger to go with it, assuming the cx2 charger is no good.

    Thanks

I'm guessing any 2 cell 480mah or around that size will work with it.. Just need to get a suitable charger capable of charging the 2s pack, and to find a suitable connector to attach to the existing lead. Not sure about the cx2 charger as I don't own one..

At £50 for the original Hirobo 2s pack is just daylight robbery!

Yup it is a cassette type looking one.. and tbh.. not sure where you could get a similar plug connector as the original.

..But at £50 a battery.. I think if I owned one, I would be trying to find a cheaper alternative

Heres a link for someone who is using thunder power packs, and how he went about it..

Yes the quark uses a cassette type but its bigger than the normal 2 cells so any other batteries I use should be able to fit in the same holder they will just need scured with Velcro. Connectors on the quark have already been modified to use the same connector as the cx2.

Another Question I had was regarding the mAh of the battery as I have read of people using 800's where as the original is only 480, was wondering what effect this would have on the machine.

          Thanks Again.

If you've modded the connectors then you are halfway there. Be aware of adding extra weight as helis that size are sensitive to increases - use some good quality scales to find outthe current battery weight and take it from there. Be aware that any extra weight will tend to reduce flight times so the extra mAh rating might not be of much benefit. You may also stress the motor and/or ESC (I've done this on my old mini pred and had to replace both. Twice.) Make sure you get a decent charger too.

At £50 a pop it won't take long for your investment in new batteries and chargers to pay off!

My Quark is about year old now & cant fault the battery as I get a good flight time althrough worth the fifty quid however I have managed to buy a cheep 2nd hand heli not much more then cost of new battery so I also have heli spares.
The batteries charges quite quickly so not too long before your back in flight, just keep searching 2nd hand something will show up in time.
I also have another 2nd hand battery that I managed to find on the net althrough it has a broken plug but I've managed to adapt such that I can plug it in so that gives me three batteries for when Im at my indoor club, again just keep searching something will turn up.

Hey guys just thought I would post on this Quark thread as its sooo lonely in here.

I have been aware of the Quark for a long time and oh how I laughed at the tiny waste of £300+. I mean, come on, a small, all plastic heli with brushed tail motor and not even on 2.4ghz and they want £325 for it and £50 per battery? I believe I was quoted on here as saying something along the lines of you'd have to be insane to buy one.....

Well my dad went and bought one

Funny - my dad always said helicopters did not interest him... that was until I bought him a Blade mCX for Xmas. Ooooh boy did I disturb the hornets nest. Since then in the last 6 months or so he has bought 6 more. None of them apart from the mCX has he really been able to learn on. He bought a couple of 450s (HK450 and CopterX450) and whilst I could fly them he struggled to lift off, scared of the power and headspeed (rightly so) He bought a Blade CX3 and a Wasp V3 - both flew terribly, despite many upgrades. Even I couldn't keep the wasp in a steady hover it was so bad. He bought some kind of Trex 250 clone and never built it as he was so dismayed.

One day he said to me - "Right I am going to buy a SRB Quark - every mag review I read loves it and every forum thread I read loves it. What do you think?"

I told him what I thought - that yes it must be a good heli because everyone loves it - but come on- £300+???

He agreed but reminded me that he had spend more than £300 already on helis and had barely flown any of them, let alone progressed. I saw his point and agreed - hey it's his money...

A week later I got my hands on his Quark during a session at the community centre. He wanted me to trim it up and let him know how it flew. 10 mins and a flat battery later the big grin on my face said it all.

What a fantastic heli. It fly's like a million dollars let alone £300. It's so unbelievably stable - it is as stable as a Blade mCX, and they are more stable than most coaxs. I trimmed it up popped it in to a hover about 8 foot up and left it there and took my hands off the tranny. 20 seconds later it was still there having not moved more than a foot.

Well chaps - I am eating my hat. To buy a Quark as your first / second heli, you do not have to be insane as i once said - you have to be very wise.

Suffice to say I now have one too - it's just so much fun to throw around in the community centre knowing that if you crash the foam blades will take it. It's bringing my flying on no end now that I am not scared to try stuff.
