  • Soggy Rolls

Well I have just started doing rolls (after being able to loop and flip without crashing anymore).

Trouble is, I always lose forward speed in my rolls - what could I be doing wrong?

I'm a fixed wing pilot by nature (planks to you) - could I be putting forward or backward cyclic in by instinct do you think?

    Any pointers appreciated....

it is very commone for fixed wing pilots to put top rudder and/or down elevator through the roll. This will kill all your forward speed very quickly.

feed a little bit of up elevator through the inverted section and you will be fine.

Well, the rolls are not so soggy anymore, but I have to work hard trying to keep that forward momentum going.

I have however managed to do a few circuits where half the circuit is inverted following a half loop at each end - very pleased with that!!!!

And I just LOVE doing rolls on a the vertical down after a stall turn or half cuban - Heli rolls look so axial after rolling planes - they look like a dart spinning through the air!

I'm really starting to enjoy the heli flying now!!

Do consecutive rolls, that'll show up your tendancy to put in elevator, and help you correct it. It also helps get the pitch change timing correct.

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?
