  • First Hover

Well i went to my indoor tonight, bought a new lipo and Turnigy charger (both new and for £60 total) off an oldboy there and set up on the floor.

powered up using the old lipo to set it up for flight and check everything, then installed the new lipo and went for it.

TG was on and i hated the way it made the heli feel, so took it off and donated it to another noobie, then proceeded to hover out the full pack on my first go!

Was a lil bit wobbly as was nervous but as soon as it was up i was away, i settled into it and was content hovering it.

The buzz was amazing, all i can say to other noobs is get on a sim, it really pays off, and get yourself a lipo/voltage monitor so you can see when you need to land.

    Roll on next week

Egg, yes its Matty Humbo, you wont be able to fly unless you got BMFA insurance and you show your papers to Dave (i think thats his name) but when you got your heli and your ready to go giz a shout and i will give ya me moby number then you can then you can come with me and Mike (or meet us there), and search the forum under the Blade 400 thread you have to get the same set up that i have, its done for beginners and thanks to boggy on here.

            (Thanks Boggy)

If its Gy model shop your going to, Max is ok but can sometimes be a little patronising especially to us noobs and if you buy anything like chargers etc test em in the shop as i recently had a unpleasent experience and he wasnt happy about giving me a refund after 1 day, even though the Sale of Goods Act 1979 says im entitled to a refund within 28 days of purchase.

He is ok if your going for little bits like shafts, blades etc although his prices are a little steep and there is an old boy at the indoor that can get everything at cut prices.

The charger i bought last night for £39 is identical to the faulty one i bought of Max for £90 and has all same connections etc, only difference is mine is black and Max's was green, and Max's lipo's are nearly £40 and i bought a 2200mAh, 11.1v, 25c lipo for £22 new in a bag.
Seeing as the B400 has 1800mAh, 20c standard i thought it was a good idea to go up a size in ampage and it came ready charged and balanced fitted with deans.

Mike, i didnt touch any of the expo after you had test flown it so its at what ever you left it at (unless you didnt change anything then its what i left it at), but i learnt pretty quick that for 0.5mm on the stick it moves 0.5 metre on the chopper lol, very light finger training to come i think.

Was impressed with my ability though and after Bren found out it was my first hover he asked how i was good at it, and i told him i just used the hardest most unstable heli on the SIM and learnt to fly it.

The only niggly problem i have is my tail drifts slightly, but due to the tail servo being fixed to the frame on a b400 i cant move it to compensate (I think i may have to delve into subtrim to cure this), however the drift is not enough to affect flight so may just go with it, if i were to fly it outdoors i doubt i would notice it as the HH would kick in against breeze's etc.

Egg, yes your more than welcome to come and watch, you only need the insurance to fly and i watched for a few weeks until i got to know ppl then when i did pay my insurance i didnt fly for three weeks due to nerves and i felt like i had a big flashing red beacon on my head, i also thought ppl would mock me if i went wrong but i was wrong, they were once like us too so they know how hard it is for us.

As for the lipo, its from a guy at the indoor and they are good and at £22 you cant knock it, if you meant the mains lead for the lipo then no the blade only comes with a field charger (crocodile clips) all you need to buy though is the mains plug bit, but i have one coming from Dubai if you need one i just waiting on delivery, im just impatient and wanted a better charger so bought another as i was unusually flush.

Im buying another battery on Sunday so i'll introduce you to Chris (the oldboy) if your there, Mike W is usually there too so i will introduce you to him too, nice guy and is more than helpful if you get stuck on anything. (great pilot also)

How old are you Egg? if your 14 or under your insurance is only £14 but if your 15 or over then its £28 and it only lasts until Dec 31 09, you have to run it from Jan to Dec every year which is poo if you wanna start flying in November, personally i think it should run a year from when you join like everyone else on the planet. Bmfa are just awkward and full of old tea drinking toffs that dont like heli's lol

Lol, i never thought of it like that Zoom.

My upstairs is used as storage above the shop but there is nothing in it except 2 pillars, although flying around the shop would be much more fun, i'd like to see how much damage the stock could take b4 my heli bit the dust lol
