  • Single cell lipo charger

Now I can fly my 4#3B for an entire battery without breaking it im finding the stock slow charger annoying. As it takes an hour to charge one battery.

I have 3 more batterys on the way from ebay, but im still going to have to wait a long time to charge them all up.

So... what charger can I use to charge these batterys a bit more quickly?

Looking at the specs of different chargers they all seem to be limited to 2cells or more.

Can i make up a lead to charge two cells in series and then charge two at a time on a 2cell charger?

What charger would you guys recomend.

I "might" buy a bigger heli in the future so I might consider spending a little more money on a charger that can be used with bigger batterys.

I also have a power supply that will output 5-15v @ 50amps, so a charger that works on 12v DC power would be ok.

    PM sent.

If you want a charger that will pretty much handle any Li-Po requirements then there is the CellPro 10S that can charge two 1 cell to 5 cell batteries at once.

      PM replied to Andy, thanks.

Im sure that the cellpro is a great charger but its the same price as my heli and I dont need any of the fancy features at the moment.

I've yet to get mine to charge single cell Lipo's. If you can do it a few pointers would be good??

Also, does anybody know where I can buy the charger side of the lipo plug so that I can make some leads up for charging?

Or should I just change everything over to micro-dean connectors?

I think there are various options.

            1) Charge them in parallel. I don't like this idea as they'll initially be discharging through each other until they reach a common voltage.

            2) Charge them in series with no balancing. I don't like this idea as the cells will be completely unmatched and charge at different rates.

            3) Charge in series with balancing connector. I think this is the way to go. However, the cellpro will likely see the pack as being completely unbalanced, and charge it even slower. Using a less clever charger would probably work though.

For what it's worth, I'd just buy some more batteries from Chinese Jade, and then recharge them over the course of the evening. If it's taking an hour to recharge then you might want to think of shortening your flights---I discharge to about 3.8V, and probably takes about 1/2hr to recharge.

(PS Smoothound: I couldn't get the cellpro 4s to charge 1S packs, either).
