  • Esky honeybee help needed

    Hi all

Got myself a heli first one ever and getting along ok.

After doing a few repairs now have a major problem tho which I need help to resolve.

Replaced swashplate for a metal one and in doing so have upset the balance of the blades which has caused them to violently vibrate when power applied, at first thought that I must of bent the main axis so bought a new one replaced but same problem is there any ideas??

If all you have done is switch one for the other, it should really not effect it, this is of course if you have put all the links in the right place.

I would double check this first, if the vibration is violent it could be your blades are well out of track, ie one blades pitch is different than the others, again could be caused by a link being put on wrong.

If you cant see anything maybe a couple of pictures of the head closeup so we can see the links may help resolve it.
    All the best
    Tony.

        Thanks for the replies,

I have the standard blades which have a fixed pitch so believe they are ok and all links are back where they should be I will upload some photos for a second opinion tho.

Only replaced the main shaft not aware what a feathering sahft is please can explain further.

I took it for granted it was the CP version not the fixed pitch,so there is no shaft fitted on yours. Its the shaft that links the blade grips on CP models and bend easily after a crash.

Can you take some pictures and I will compare them to my 4#3B which has the alloy parts fitted already.

In the mean time, make sure that all your links move smoothly but are no lose.

Check that the flybar is centred (should be 25mm from the brass bit to the plastic ball)

Make sure the blades are not done up tightly, the screws that hold them should be tight but the blades should move freely.

Take the blades off and see if the virbation is still there.

Did you also fit the alloy blade holder?

Agree with Holst, most likely blade screws too tight, slacken then wind up the heli on the ground to less than lift point the blades should then balance themselves out.

With these little helis its safe enough to hold the heli in your hand, then you can spool it up to full power.
Just hold it at chest height, not infront of your face and make sure nothing can fly off

Ive got my 4#3B hovering hands off now (for a couple of seconds)
Im rubbish at flying the thing, but ive got quite good at repairing it and setting it up

Thanks for all the suggestions, tried firing up with the blades off and there is no vibrations then.

Guessing that this means there is some balancing problems with my blades (fixed pitch) is there any easy tips for getting them balanced?

Got some photo's of it on my desktop but struggling to upload them

hi ash if you want to bring it over to belper i can have alook for you.

it could be your main shaft, the little pin that holds the head asembly on , the blade tracking or maybe something else.

                    cheers

Dose the pin that I have circled move freely up and down? Had a similar problem on mine.

Easy enough, pop the ring links and take the whole head off. Put two glasses side by side and balance the ball links on the head one on each glass.
The blades should sit level, if they don't its time to get some tape and add to the lighter side.

I just purchased one of these Xtreme metal swashplates and found the same problem with fitting :- what direction did you take? Modify the brass pin or the guide?

I've found the blade holders wear and don't support the blades properly so they can flex. And the fibreglass stiffener can split. To prove it's neither of them position the blades like in the photo and tighten them quite firmly (so they are difficult to move). Then try a hover and if the problem's gone just replace the blade holder. (Sorry the pic is of a Walkera 4#3A but the same applies)
