  • At last!

Well, I've been practising on Phoenix since the middle of January, and finally I can hover for more than a couple of seconds at a time.

Now to start on other manouevres. Can't wait till I get my new heli in the Autumn.

    well done mate

now that you can hover for a while next step.
    hover for a while more.
    at all orientations
ie left side on ... right side on. nose in
then think about moving it about.

time spent on this now will save you time and money later on.

well they all say practice makes perfect. it also makes quite sound financial advice as crashes can sometimes be very expensive. i am sure when you get your new heli in the autumn you will be an accomplished pilot.
      cheers
      Dominic.

Each step feels really good with helis. I think the first step that you've just taken is the hardest because you don't really know if you can do it until one day you can. I don't think anybody runs out of targets they just get harder, or you can just enjoy whatever standard you reach. Even repairing them is fun because they can be made better than before the last landing.

nice one Brian, that buzz you get when it goes right and you learn that little bit more never goes away in this hobby.. It is though, the most infuriating, time consuming and sometimes expensive hobby i have ever got involved in but at the same time it is definitely the most rewarding also. So if at times things seem "lost" just stick with it.. The rewards WILL come..

Thanks a lot for the encouragement, guys. It means a lot.

HeliTv - I'll have to wait till Autumn. My wife and I run a hotel, and once we are open, it's pretty much 24/7 till the end of the season.

Martin - I've been flying the Vibe 90 - nice stable heli. I've been reducing the Expo, and I'm going to a smaller heli today, and carry on that till I can handle a 250. I honestly think one of the factors for me was getting a decent Tx to use. I've got a DX6 (not i) and it's much smoother than the stock Tx I got with my Esky.

How's the build going? I keep an eye on your blog. Can't wait for your maiden flight.

I agree on the T/x - I bought a DX6i as I found the stock T/x that came with my CX2 didn't seem right. Having said that, it probably was me that was not right!

Build's going as per blog. Having said that, I have just this morning received a tail servo I got from eBay and should get the AR7000 I bought from Tim (Busterboy) in the next few days. So, come next weekend the T-rex 500 will be complete all bar batteries and a charger. Maiden flight will be a while tho as the batteries and charger are blooming expensive!

You may want to try Raptor 30/50 or T-Rex 500/600 as there reasonably price and common at the field.

                              Good luck!!
