  • Problems with Kyosho concept 30

I got a Kyosho concept 30 SE for xmas off ebay from the wife, and as it was setup to fly by the owner ( aparently ).. I decided to give it a go this weekend.

Got the engine running, spooled up, and did some ups and downs ( small lift off ground ).. little moving around ( unintentional ).. but I started to get the hang of it and understand how the thing works ect.

Then - I had a little touch at the rear. On inspection nothing seamed to be broken untill I attemted to restart the heli. The starter cone turns anti-clockwise, and blades clokwise... useual starting - Hold blades, and the engine turns ( blades run on a clutch? ). BUT now - the clutch isnt working.. the engine turns, but the blades will not be held.. You can feel an all mighty pull on the blades to turn.. and after inspectiong the problem - Yep.. the blades can not be held while engine is turned.. ANYONE know whats going on here.. and how I fix it. I have zerro exp with heli ( apart from me doing this ).

it could be any number of things but is most likely to be related to the clutch. Take the engine out and you will probably find that the clutch/cooling fan isnt on the engine properly any more.

whilst i am here.. just a couple of normal safety points.

where are you flying this heli? If you havnt joined the BMFA and a local model club do so. I would also get one of the local experienced fliers to check the model over for you.

    where do you live?

Thanks guys.. had an idea that it was the clutch.. but didn't understand enough about it to be safe and strip the thing. Problem I'm finding is parts for her... she seams to be so old, no one has parts anymore..lol I'm wondering if i should replace with a newer model ( but funds are really tight ).

Ade: I'm flying it in a field outside my house.. at least 200m in every direction to anything. I've only been starting, spooling up and hopping off the ground - setting the trims ect. I am finding it difficult to find local flying clubs. I live on Angelsey in North wales.

Are clutch an easy thing to fix.. and is it very expensive, and ( last one hehe ) - is it a common thing to go?

        thanks

          Clutch

Its a shame mate i have just sold a load of bits that would have been good for you inc a clutch, I changed to a raptor for just such a reason as i could not get parts for my kyosho's.

            hi,

BMFA list one club on angelsey, Its important to know you arent flying near them as you could be shooting down some very expensive machinery.

            http://www.bmfa.org/clubs/clist.php

it may not actually be something broken but the fan might have wound off the crank which is a common problem.

you wont know until you drop the engine out.

Still cant find a replacement clutch for my concpet 30. Is there a clutch from another modle that will fit. I hear that myabe a clutch from a 50 size would fit.. but don't know enough about these things.

Does anybody have one I could buy off, or know of a stockist ( in the UK or US ) that has a concept 30 se clutch?

what are the dimentions of you clutch? I will have a dig through my collection of knackered clutches and see if I can find what model might fit.

                          I need to know

                          diameter,
                          thickness,
                          mounting points
size/shape of any bits that stick out.

for a concept 30. Its been used and just sits on the shelf now as I
                            sold the heli sometime ago.
