  • Hovering the Blade (vid)

Hovering the Blade 400 after 5 weeks. a bit tricky trying to use the camera at the same time, canopy is a T-rex 450 fiberglass I took the training gear of and most of the vibration has gone.

looking good mate but id have to say that vibration is concerning even with the training gear on it shouldnt be that bad.

suspect main shaft or feathering shaft bent. ?

I think it may have been the feathering shaft I went out again a few hairs later and as i spooled up the shaft broke in two a smashed the blade grips the blades are ok and the tail belt was a bit slack. a trip to fast lads and its ready for tomorrow or should I say today now, I will try and get another video but its a bit hard to fly and film at the same time.

          Well impressed after 5 weeks.

I wouldn't try filming and flying at the same time - how do you do it, strap the cam to your head?

Maybe he has the cam in his left hand and he is controlling both sticks with his right hand lol. I have filmed my walkera before with a home made hat cam, thats cellotaping a nokia n95 to a baseball cap. Tbh I wouldnt do the same with my blade as I dont need any further distractions. I crash enough as it is. How many crashes have you had since you got it? I have had 3 crashes so far since xmas its been grounded most of the time but I think I have been unlucky.

well done mate, how often in those 5 weeks were you practicing? also does the 450 canopy fit straight on or did you have to mod it as i really like the shark canopy.

Id also put the wobble down to something bent but have you also checked that your blades are balanced? i had same problem on a HBFP and it turned out the blades were off, installed new head and blades.......problem gone

Hi and thanks for your reply. The video was made using a Nikon P5100 digital compact set to video. I tied the strap around my chin so as you follow the heli the camera follows too, just a bit hard when it’s low down.

In the 5 weeks flying, the first week I went out every day, now its Friday afternoon after work, Saturday and Sunday morning but not today its too windy. If I get home from work early enough I will use one battery on my drive, I’m on a self learning curve.

The 450 canopy is a fibreglass one from Fast-lads @ £7.99 the only mods you have to do is drill two small holes for the grommets, a good thing is that the battery leads go through a cut-out in the bottom of the canopy so you can connect the battery with the canopy still on and only take it off to change the battery. I’ve only got two batteries so that’s not many times for me.

As to crashes I practically lived at Fast-lads in the first 4 weeks it must have cost me about £100 in parts, but for the last week not a crash apart from yesterday. After the video the feathering shaft broke in half as I spooled up and trashed the blade grips and gears in one servo, and now it’s all fixed and ready to go apart from the wind.

                Cheers Chris

                  Looking good!

I will say, even with a camera on a tripod, I find it off-putting to fly and vid at the same time. I find I'm trying to fly to keep the heli in shot and, even with a co-ax, my mind needs to be solely on my flying.

Yes I now what you mean, I’ve got a mcx bind and fly, I put the camera on the tripod to video me trying to land it on a upturned glass dish in the living room and it was all over the place. I was trying to land and keep it in the frame at the same time. Didn’t work very well so I scraped the video
