i know what idle up is but i was wondering why people fly normally eg hover with this on instead of leaving it off
i leave it off when i fly but should i be flying with it on
    cheers

People leave it on because it adds stability in wind, and overall conditions.

it also prolongs the life of the motor, and ESC, as only a constant (depending on throttle curve) voltage is being applied, thus putting less strain on the motor and ESC due to constant changes to the voltage..

Edit: it also stops you getting into the habit of dumping the throttle when you run into trouble.

    Hope this helps

its really a 3d thing it keeps your headspeed constant whilst inverted.
if you flip upside down in normal you would shut down the throttle.
it also as a added bonus helps the esc stay cool on electric models

Flying in normal (slower headspeed) mode makes the heli easier to control, so its good for circuits etc, but I fly in idle up all the time, so I can do 3d without wondering which mode I'm in.

I think you will find plenty of posts about people forgetting to hit idle up before going inverted, and the results aint pretty

Alot of people use normal for spoolup only on electric models (i assume were talking about your blade 400 here as i been speaking with Wayne this evening and he mentioned he flew with you ). They do all the flying/hovering in idleup because it keeps the headspeed constant. It also keeps the motor efficient as it cools itself better and also the ESC cooler. If you are varying the voltage that goes to the motor from the ESC (basically what happens if you fly in normal because of your throttle curve) then the ESC has to get rid of any of the excess voltage. This excess is disipitated through the ESC heatsink and so shows as heat. So basically by flying in idleup your not constantly altering and so things are kept cooler and more efficient.

          Cheers
