  • 1st proper heli

    hi all,
some of you might remember i bought a mini pred a couple of weeks back to find out it wasnt the best so i took it back.
now iv started going to a local club which flys both indoor and outdoor, they have been really frendly and helpfull. the problem i have is which route do i go down ic or electric. a few of the members have said to go ic as they are bigger and more stable which will help me a beginner and others have said go electric because your able to play more oftern ie your not effected by the weather because you can go in doors but this is were im now stuck.
i can see the argument to and against each route. i know you could buy one of each if money is not a problem.
before i do take off im going to get alot of practice on the sim so i dont wreck my new toy.

what do the experts on this forum think?
cheers for your time in pointing me the right way.

    Thanks

Having been a staunch electric only flyer having just gone nitro I'd say go nitro a nice 50 size raptor or trex 600n should fit the bill nicely. When you can fly (I was out in the cold over xmas) you can fly, refuel and fly again no waiting for costly battery packs to be charged up.

with Sao. Just buy yourself some thermals, a large woolly hat and some fingerless gloves. Oh and don't forget a large flask so you can have a brew

+3 for IC, T Rex 600 nitro is my preference but you won't go too far wrong with a Raptor either, just more expensive on spares.

The IC route means you can fly a larger heli (50 or 90 class).
Not only are they more stable but also have more of an awesome factor about them.
That said electrics are good as they are quick and easy to get in the air and if you have an indoor meet, as you do, then you can fly them there too.
As a beginner I would start with something less intimidating and go for a small leccy then when you've mastered that, move on to a larger IC.
There was another member who bought a 90 as their first heli but ended up selling it as he was too frightened to fly it.

i think getting a trex 450 will solve the issue at hand.
it might not be a gasser and as stable as a 50 or 90 but it's the perfect heli for all levels.
restrict pitch to only positive and you'll be safe with the training gear.
plus no need for cleaning after every flight or proper storing or cleaning or cleaning or cleaning......

i would say a blade 400 would be a very good route!
has tx and as soon as uve charged the batt your ready to fly
                  good little machine too!
