  • BuzzFly Problem

    Hi

My BuzzFly has developed a problem.

Normal flight requires about 1/3 throttle to maintain take off and hover until the battery goes - normally 8-10 mins.
Connect up fresh battery today and it required half throttle to get off the ground and up to 3/4 to hover. It would only fly for 1 min before it could not get off the ground.

    Tried spare battery - same
recharged battery 3/4 hr (normal) - still the same

I am thinking main motor problem, what do you think (nothing rubbing on main drive)?

because of the size of the buzzfly to keep the weight down the motor isnt quite as big as maybe it should be for ultimate reliability.

so basically they dont last forever, the brushes wear out and they loose power.

its a cheap and easy job to replace them and as long as you shut the power off as the blades hit something solid they should last plenty of time.

A small squirt of WD40 into the motor (and not the 4 in 1) seems to double the motor life according to another forum. I've tried it on a failing motor and it gave me another 15ish flights.

I'd also suggest letting the motor cool down between flights.

Though I have no definitive evidence that this makes a difference.

Mine was the same, get yourself a heat sink and cut out the canopy at the top a bit bigger to let more air flow over the heat sink. Still on my second motor after plenty more flights than the first

Edit: take the sticker off the new motor before putting the heat sink on. Metal to metal is far better than metal to foil then glue and then metal :-)

                    Thanks Guys

Got my motor and a few spares today - from www.rc-bargains.co.uk/
Fantastic service, all parts with postage included.

Slapped the motor in and back to normal Yippee

Had a look at the site above - cant wait for the bushless motor conversion to become available in UK.

                      Definately the motor mate.

Look at fitting a heat shield on the next one.
