  • Buzzfly or mCX

    Hi

I am a complete beginner who i suspect has already saved plenty of £££ in the few threads i have read on here. I can be a bit impatient at times but you guys have already stopped me going out and buying some 6ch heli that i will put straight into a wall.

What would the pros and cons be of a buzzfly or an mCX. I am happy with the idea that something tiny will get a lot more use to start with and allow me to practice lots, these seem to be the only two options for something that is really small. The mCX seems to be a popular beginner model. But the (probablyignorant) snob in me is thinking a co axial type helicopter is some how cheating, and i would rather have something that was closer to what I would like to end up with. Am i just being silly? Does the buzzfly offer anything over the mCX?

Main advantage i can see for the mCX (ignoring the number of blades its got!) is that I can use a DX6i with this and with Pheonix, where as the buzzfly doesn't have that option.

Is there anything else I should consider?

    Thanks in advance

I bought a cx2 of boggy, and it was the first heli i flew, i have never had a go on a buzzfly on mcx, but the cx2 is great fun, and a great beginner.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The mCX is an ideal first heli as it's really stable, gives confidence and can be flown anywhere inside (I've even hovered in the downstairs loo... don't ask!!)
It is coaxial but when you're starting I don't see this as cheating just learning carefully. As you say, it can be bound to the DX6i, so that and Phoenix are a great start.

The buzzflier is a single rotor fixed pitch heli so is much more difficult to fly and those that I've seen are so twitchy that IMO a beginner would find them too difficult. There is a video somewhere of Ade Law (one of the top UK heli pilots) hovering his buzzflyer and making it look easy landing on a pringles tin... trust me, this isn't easy with an mCX and very hard with a buzzflyer...

I would get the mCX, DX6i and Phoenix, then when you've had a go on the sim for a while, you can judge the next move a bit better.

I guess others may have a different view...

if your a total beginner then a buzzfly might be a little too much for you, they require flying so are really aimed for somebody who can already fly but wants to fly in their living room

the coax version of the buzzfly or the mcx are a better bet for a beginner.

the CX2 is much bigger and noiser than buzz and mcx and also breaks blades etc much easier too.

buzz vids not sure if these will work...

Thanks for the words of wisdom, seems like an obvious choice... except one of Ade's comments on the second video says you won't get bored with a buzzfly like you would do with a cx. Now, appreciate that this is coming from somebody who sounds like they have been round the rc helicopter block a few times... but how long before the getting bored thing plays a part. 6 week? 6 months? a year? 2 years?

              Cheers

it depends how quick you learn and how much flying you do. I would be tempted to ask buzzflyer if its possible to convert the buzzfly CX to FP and how much that would cost.

that way you could get the buzzfly CX then once your competant convert it to FP.
