  • Fuel and spares

    Another one (two)...
It's currently running on 20% Wildcat fuel but Magnum is easier to get hold of. Is it ok to run out of the Wildcat and start on Magnum or should I stick to the same fuel?
    Second question...
What field spares should I order to have in my tool box?
    Thanks again.
    Cheers, Lee.

    Tool Box spares:

Are glow Plugs at least 2 always, Fuel Tubeing 6 inchs of it or so.
Some of the common screws that go in the heli are next as theres nothing
like getting down to the field your 1st flight and find a dam screw missing
Hex or otherwise. Plus Loctite blue is always handy to have as well.

Full set of good Allen Keys! These are always needed with a Good
few screw drivers. Thin nose Pliers also help.

A Dam good Field charger is a Must really one that can do the Tranny and
Helicopter with ease. Its one item you pay for so buy once and buy a dam
    good one.

Fuel is down to personel Choice I use Wildcat 15% and have some 20%
I bought off another Club member and when I run out I will buy more.
My engine runs on it and setup for it so why change!

Yes you could use the Wildcat up and switch though your engine wont mind
just needs a small adjusment on mixture but won't harm anything and Magnum
    is easier on the Pocket.

Everyone has there personel choice though.

          Field Spares,

I always carry lots of spares with me, mostly becuase I have accumulated them in a big alloy case I call the spares box. It contains all kinds of things like, glow plugs, fuel tubing (Main and clunk) screws, nuts, bolts, servo arms, balls, control rod ends, fuel filters, spare fuel pump, loads of zip ties and a couple of boxes of odds and ends of spare parts, bearings, blade grips, mixing arms and other control levers, pushrods and any other unused spares from previous repairs.

As far as tools go, as others have said, a good set of allen keys is a must, there are companies around that do them in the form of screwdrivers, with different coloured anodised handles which dictate the sizes. A set of normal screwdrivers is also very important, both flat head and posi dirve. A good set of long nose and normal pliers, as small set of mole grips, a special set of ball link pliers are also a very good idea, as is a handful of 1/4 drive small sockets, the most important ones are 4, 4.5, 5.5, 7, 10, 11 and 12 mm are the ones you would find most useful. The larger ones are not necessarily for use as sockets, but they make great supports to get bearings in and out of things etc. Other tools I find most useful are a large set of third hands, otherwise known as water pump pliers and a good set of normal pliers, also a little hammer is useful from time to time.

Other things I carry with me are plenty of rags and one of those garden type spray bottle full of soapy water to clean down the models after a session at the field.

          I hope this helps.

          Cheers,
          Pete.
