  • B400 upgrades - Advice needed, please.

It has been 3 weeks since I bought my B400 and today, for my 7th flight and 2nd flight after my first crash, I thought I would be a bit more daring and fly around a bit rather than just hover. On Phoenix I can fly around fairly well, if I do say so myself, so when on the field today I thought to myself that I am going to have to do more than hover sooner or later so I went for it!

One thing that I noticed when flying around is that although the real thing is quite a bit more stable the tail is not so much. This got me thinking about upgrades...

I have been looking around on various websites and am seriously considering a GY401 with a 9254 tail servo and 3x Hitec HS-65MG servos. All of that will come to £226, quite a bit of money but I think it would be worth it.

My question is would I have to upgrade anything else? Like the ESC for example and if I do what would you guys recommend?

I am also thinking of buying a couple of those 'Zippy' 2200mAh batters from the states as they are fairly cheap and seem to get decent reviews?

    Cheers.

Im pretty new here myself but I do believe you will need to upgrade the esc to something like the align 35a one. I went with the futuba S3153 (£25) for my tail servo and at some point will upgrade to a 401 gyro also, I have seen them second hand on here for £50-£60 a bit cheaper than new!

I just stripped several of the cyclic servo's again so will be upgrading to the HS-65MG too later down the line as soon as funds allow it.

if your going to buy new try and get a spartan gyro they are only a few pounds more. the 9254 is a full size servo and to big for the blade try a hs 5084mg ( fit the servo before changing the gyro you may be surprised!!).and yes you will probably need a better esc

        Thanks for the info.

Specifically, what ESC should I be looking at?

Y not for now ... buy a decent gyro and tail servo ... tbh the cyclic servos on the blade are not that bad ...that way the tail will be spot on and you wont have to upgrade the esc on it ... and get the new cyclic servos and esc at a later date .. .that way you are not laying it out all at once and can buy more spares ...

Thanks for the advice but the main reason that I am considering upgrading the cyclic servos is because of the weak gears. Id rather shell out on some decent servos rather than having to keep buying gear sets for the standard jobbies.

While I am here I have another question. Is there anywhere where I can get some of those bolts that hold the head and main gear onto the main shaft? They tend to shear into two or three pieces after a crash and at the minute I am having to have to buy the one way bearing shaft and shim set just for the bolt.

M2 x 12mm Caphead bolts should do the trick. Googled these for ya....

As Boggy said, the 9254 is too big. The hitec he has recommended should see you right.
Also the gyro you might as well go spartan. The 65s are good cyclics but you will have to upgrade your ESC as it will probably burn out. When I did mine I bought a synergy 35A ESC.
Only really recommending these upgrades since you can remove them if you ever decide to go for another heli and install them in that.
Bear in mind that the 65s will only be good in anything up to a 450 class model anything larger will require larger servos. The Spartan is good for any size model from a 250 all the way up to a 90 size. So your money isn't wasted there.
