  • Any advice?

    Hi all..Great forum...very addictive.....
I`m a 37 year old guy from Sevenoaks, Kent.. I have flown Gliders and basic IC planes in the past (12-15 years ago). I have a FF6 and an FP6NL Challenger Radio. Helis were always the thing I wanted to fly but were out of my reach(too expensive).. I am now in a better situation and the wife is softer .. Last week I bought a Walkera 22d heli but now realise this was possibly a mistake.. I am visiting a heli club field on Sunday with the idea that I would join and go from there...I think the Raptor 50 will be my first real purchase and hopefully get myself some lessons.. I have been practising on the FMS flight simulator and although its not up there with the big boys it is helping me to hover the finicky Walkera..
Will my FF6 RX be OK to use with a Raptor 50 to start me of?

    All the best

there are a few generations of FF6. they range from being useless to being a bit of a pain in the arse.

it will work to get you going but i feel really sorry for the guy that has to set it up for you :-)

the FF7 is a lot better, having most of the features of the FF9 and a lot easier to use.

      Hi

      Have to agree with Ade.

      I had a FF6 and now have a FF7.

Difference is considerable and makes for a much more enjoyable experience. The FF7 is just so simple to program.

      Cheers

Ade didn't say it, so I'll help him out. . . . . . . Ade runs a flying school and would be happy to help you get into the air. . . . . . . .he'll also help you out by setting up your FF6 ;-)
        Janek

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

Yes I could tell by his voice that he was just gagging to setup the FF6 .. but the lessons from Ade sounds good...I should finish repairing my Walkera 22d this evening.. I have bought a training kit/crash kit(skids) this may help me a bit with the Walkera until I get up and running with the club and get some help..

sorry Ade the sandwitch board was getting a new coat of paint...

                  Copus,
Ive had a lesson with ade and it is worth while, just help with the basics will improve your flying very quickly. Depending on what you need, you can have a lesson on his knight and that is a great bit of kit.

Yo Copus, did you go to Nomads the weekend. So what was it like?, looks like its more for Planks than Heli's. They have loads of space tho

Yes I did go...loads of space but you are right about the planks...I got the impression that they are not too fond of the `Egg whisks` as they call them.. But the guys I spoke to seem quite chatty and helpful... If you wanna have a wonder over there maybe I could meet you there...

Hi Guys. Have you tried Bickley MFC? Copusmaximus, There's also Eynsford heli club near you, but I'm not sure how membership stands at this point. Unfortunately many of the local clubs aren't keen on heli's.

I'm a member of Maidstone which is sort of blessed with three sites, but has a small heli contingent. I also fly with Barton's Point in Sheerness. This is a mixed friendly club which has had an increase in heli members in the last 3 years I've been flying there. They have a big open field to use and can fly every day of the week from 10am to 8 pm. The only drawback is the roadworks with the new bridge, but that'll be finished soon.
