  • A noobs question on battery's

    Hi all.

I am currently using a 6s 2500mah FP battery for my trex 500. A lot of people seem to use 5s battery's with 3500mah or higher. Im a little confused about the two. For example would a 6s 2500 get the same flight time as a 5s 3000? what are the differences, and how does it affect the flight of a heli. Does one give longer flight times but reduced power? If someone could give me a brief explaination that would be great. Im planning to buy a 2nd battery soon and want to know which would suit me betetr as a beginner. Thanks

The higher the cell count the higher the voltage. The higher the voltage the lower the power draw per any given requirement. If the power draw is lower (amps) the longer the batt will last.

You would have to do the maths but I guess something like 5 x 3000 = 15,000 and 6 x 2500 = 15,000 so given the same power requirement for a particular movement, say hovering, then the flight time would be the same.

The difference is you change pinion sizes when you change cell counts. A bit like raising or lowering gear ratios.

PS - think that's about right.
