Do I stay electric or go for a 30?

Just been reading the Twister 3D Expert (Brushless) review in Rotorworld and been looking on the internet and these helis look good. I already have a Futaba T7CP tranny that can do CCPM but what ESC, RX and gyro would be a good match for the heli?

I have the the 7c as well, Speed controller theirs (JP one) is good
I actually have the 30amp version or get the 25amp. Someone at
the Club has the align speed controller and thats A really neat speed
controller.

Gyro: feel free to choose I have a cheap airtrix one about 50 pounds
works well enough for me. a futaba 401 will work as well. Reciever I
have a 6 channel GWS one. You want to put the reciever under the main
shaft though.

I had one servo die today lucky not in flight... Will take to the shop and
see if they can get JP to replace it.

Had a good day flying the Raptor about instead.

I think you must decide early on which type of heli you prefer weigh up the pros and cons of each.

I.C 50 size glow helis fly better than any electric equivalent imho! however they are noisy, messy smelly and just downright mean and nasty mothers!! (read intimidating)But I aint come across a better electric heli than a rappy 50 with hyper YET for flying stability and reliability, and one more thing is the nitro helis dont have the problem of glitching radio gear as much as electrics, with some electrics its a nightmare finding the ideal position to stop glitches.

Electric nice quiet, sheer convenience pick them and batteries up along with your tx and your of flying.

Now the cost side of things goes like this.......... nitro initially may be cheaper, compared to elecs, but once you have a fair bit of kit for electrics i.e chargers balancers and plenty of cells, it balances out, in the long run I think its even cheaper than nitro by quite some margin. For example I have 28 emoli cells made up into 5 cell and 4 cell packs that can be used with Swift, Eco8, Trex 600 etc simply by adding packs together parallel or serial.

I have just bought an Eco 8, (I know everyone says theyre crap and expensive on bits) but for 89 quid for the kit, uses a cheapo 60 amp tower pro esc that cost 21 quid new! all I had to buy for it was 4 servos, so its a cheap heli, and it flys for over 20 mins on 3 cell lipo packs or 4 cell emolis. Compare this to the 50 raptor I have and I only get 10 mins from the hyper 50! Fuel at 20 quid a gallon! soon goes through it! the emolis are pretty bullet proof will take some heavy landings without problems and can be re-charged in 20 mins with a Schultz 330 charger. Three weekens flying with the rappy has cost at least 7 cells emolis, and the emolis will last yonks!

As for choice of starter elec heli, I think the Swift is really great, however so far I havent seen the perfect power/duration setup for it, mine only gives between 5 and 7 mins of flight time, lots and lots of experimentation is still going on to find the best setup for it! in time no doubt someone will come up with it, but at the moment its a matter of if you want hard 3d you gonna get 5-7 mins max 9 mins max duration sport flying.
Parts cost of repairs is a big pull for the Swift spares almost trex prices, otherwise if the Eco 8 spares were as cheap I would definately recommend the Eco, its stable flys so light and times on brushless/lipos are fantastic!

Trex bit small for learning and high head speed on small heli can be intimidating.

All I am saying is make your decision and stick with it, as others have said once youve invested in electrics you will have spent some serious dosh, but as time goes on it gets much better cost wise, as you only buy the chargers once lipos every blue moon as required once youve got a fair few!

I went with the r50 the other weekend and I had 4 flights with the rappy, and had 16 yep 16 flights with the Swift! easy to do when the lipos re-charge in 20 mins!
