  • Doing a self build

I am still wondering which model to buy. I came across this

    http://www.heliguy.com/Electric-RC-H...kit-assembled/

This looks like the basic air frame. Could someone let me know what bits I need to add to get it ready to fly. Doesn't need to be anything exotic at this stage.

I thought that doing it this way and building slowly would give me simulator time without the temptation to rush out and fly. I am an engineer by profession so am not fazed by a collection of bits.

To get that heli up and running you need:
    Transmitter and Receiver
    Gyro (preferably Heading hold)
3 servos for the swash, plus one decent servo for the tail ( I used to use a Hitec HS 55 on my old one)
    Battery
Not sure if it comes with a motor, but you might as well go for the brushless upgrade anyway, the stock brushed ones are not very good! - so that will mean brushless motor and speed controller.
Might be handy to get a Blade pitch gauge, maybe a balancer for the blades too. Plus a battery balance charger.
Hope this list is enough!! Good luck, the Honey Bee King is ok, though I had a nightmare trying to get mine to fly well enough. If you're just starting out you might be better off getting a co-ax heli for now, and a sim. Then as you learn to fly on those, you could be slowly buying the bits for a nice Trex 450!! They are a bit bigger than the King, but they fly SO much better.
Trex 500ESP - Scorpion motor, CC ice 75 esc. Spartan Quark gyro, Std Align servos
    Knight Sport - Spartan/BLS251, Hyper 50, 3050's on cyclic, 3D mixer arms
Outrage Fusion 50 - Viper 700kv, 14t, Align servos, Spartan, 8s, Hobbywing 100HV. Maidened - Love it, set up to fly really smooth :-)
Gootch 450SEv2 built and flown, very nice heli :-)
    MCPX BL
    MPX Twinstar (In bits!!)
    DX8/Futaba T9CP
    Phoenix

      Thanks Murph for that info.

Did a quick costing on it and is roughly twice the price of the RTF which is what I thought might happen
