absolute beginner

Hi everybody

Got my first Heli yesterday,
Buzzfly SE which is as expected a little tricky but improving with every flight.

My main problem is with stick coordination so I think I must get a sim to train on.

I believe Phoenix is the main one (numbers on forum) but what about Realflight G4.

Which one would be best?

Looks to me as if Phoenix has better support - free model downloads and upgrades but am I correct.

I await your advice.

you are correct about phoenix having free model downloads and upgrades and i have it myself and think it is great but having not used any of the other sim's i cannot compare it but from what some others have said they like it more sometimes!

Both sims are very good. Phoenix is some £50 cheaper and goes through regular updates. I have used both and probably didn't notice anything in the flight of the helis. What I would say is that Phoenix have most of the common models available and if they don't and there is enough demand they'll do one. Same goes for flying sites.

Another vote for Phoenix...

There's some adverse posting going on at the moment, particularly surrounding the multiplayer, online modes, but for my money, Phoenix is good value - we have 2 (legal!) copies in the house. It also seems that many of the top chaps use Phoenix so that's good enough for me...

Don't know of any other software company that offers free upgrades for life either - I guess Bill Gates would be a lot poorer if Microsoft did that!

and that makes me happy.
there is no point me saving for a bigger and better heli, as I think it may take me along time to get to the level were I am going to need one.
if in some way buying all the hopups now eventually pay for them self over the life of the heli then I think its worth it, and if not, well hell, it looks good and in my head that's all that counts if I cant fly the thing.

and when the day comes when I need a bigger and better heli, I will go and buy one and start all over again, and yes I would buy the hopups straight away for that too.

But then that's me.

and no I cant stop looking at all the carbon bit I just fitted, and yes I will be ordering the Alu head and tail in the morning.

For a training sim I'd recommend Aerofly Pro Deluxe. That's what I have and still use today. It's very realistic, easy to use and will teach you priceless skills! Most importantly it does hone your skills to fly helicopters.

Plus also you can download free models to add to the sim.

I tried aerofly and TBH thought it sucked .... I also use phoenix and G4 .. and out the 2 .. Phoenix is easier to config and the heli's in it fly like there real counterparts with no fiddling ... G4 always seems not as twitchy as my real helis so had to mess about with the settings to get it to run right .. Phoenix is the only one that I liked out the others and is also cheaper to boot ...

I know the guys at Phoenix are having a few issues right now, never has the "don't fix it if it isn't broken" applied more, but that is by far the best one out there, and the problems will be sorted soon enough, many don't experience any now, but give Phoenix fair do's there straight on the case when ever a glitch sparks off.

As for crashing it's all part of the game to beginning with, and even once you've learned most moves accidents will happen, luckily Heli's are modular in design so you bust a part, replace, back to new.
