  • First Flight

    Hi All,
I got a New Century MD500 for Christmas and flew it for the first time today!
Well, tell a lie, I flew it on Christmas Day in the front room! You guest
it i broke it! The main rotor wing grip broke so had to wait for another one
to arrive in the post. 3 days later it arrive! . After fitting the new part i took it to the car park today which was very quiet and it took off! YES!
    at last first proper flight.
I have a question though, When its hovering it seems to be turning to the left, kind of spinning, not sure if anyone knows what that problem is.? any help would be great.. could it be the dual rotor blades speed adjustment or
i need to do some more adjustment. OK I can't really control the heli just yet but slowly getting there

Only after just over a week i fancy the Raptor 30 V2. As everyone does, I don't want to spend out to much and think the only option is to keep flying my MD500 and slowly get the kit bit by bit.
I have been looking at this site
    http://alshobbies.com/shop/lookupsto...pc=6177&Desc=o
If anyone can help it would be fantastic. Is it a good idea to get it piece by piece? In the meantime I will save my money and look forward to any comments that you have.

    Thanks

    Gary

Most coaxial helis 'spin' when running. This is due to the amount of power the batt delivers as it is new and as it runs down.

Use trim on the Tx to adjust this during the flight.

If using trim doesn't work you have to adjust the 4 in 1 pot, but don't do this until you are sure the trims are too far out.

PS, I used to live in Torquay, when it was small and not so crowded. (1966 till 1983)

hi gary welcome to the forum. try these guys they are closer and will give you a far better service than al's hobbies http://hobby-hangar.co.uk/

as david says the little co'ax heli's will tend to turn slowly just trim it out and learn to fly around it. if it realy is too bad it can be adjusted on the 4 in 1 controler if it has a proportional pot

Als hobbies are only box pushers and don't keep a whole lot of spares. You'll be better off using as above or one of the other excellent suppliers our hobby has, FastLad, Revolution RC Skyline to name but a few.

Well, I was looking at a Raptor, now I have changed my mind.
Looks like Battery ones are just as good!

I have narrowed it down to Two

          The Align Trex T450
          OR
          Blade 400

Which are the pros and cons of each?

          Thanks for your input currently

              Hi Gaz and Welcome!

I have a Blade and rate it. i started with a Blade CX2 contra and soon wanted more!!! Either the 450 or the Blade are a BIG step up in terms of flying skills so I'd recommend getting a simulator like Phoenix as early as possible. this will give you an idea of how steep the learning curve is. Collective Pitch (CP) helis are MUCH trickier than contras - despite being able to fly the CX2 around forwards, backwards, sideways etc, and being able to hover the Blade 400 model in Phoenix, I managed just 10 seconds for my first flight with the real thing before it hit the deck!

The Blade 400 is a great package because its all "ready-to-go" with a reasonable transmitter, and fairly cost-effective spares. The T-Rex 450 is better, but properly specced, will cost more money.

I decided to learn on the Blade 400, crashing frequently(!), then when I get a bit better (hopefully in the Spring) I'll get a T-Rex 500...

Anyway. best of luck, and keep posting questions... I found this forum invaluable when I started...

Quite sound advice from someone who has only been flying for a short while themselves.
                HeliTV is right though.
The Trex is a better model than the B400 but the 400 comes with a decent Tx which you can use with other models and is cheap and easy to repair. It flies very well and will do you until you get into much more complex flying. I managed to do tic-tocs and inverted flight with mine when I owned one.
The only thing I upgraded was the main blades and gyro but even that isn't necessary at your stage.
