  • Practice Makes.......a Lil Better Than B4

    Hey all,
First off i want to say thank to, well everyone that helped me. i was having no end of trouble with setup i hadnt even really got to flying and after crashing, fixing, crashing, fixing i can probably rebuild my belt cp with my eyes closed and can pinpoint a problem straight away, thats thanks to all your help.

So now i have been hovering, kinda i know everyone says it takes ages to learn to hover but i cant begin to comprehend doing tricks and that. Its just it takes all my concentration to hover and keep it from wandering and if a breeze comes along it seems almost impossible. Is this just the issues everyone goes thru and how long should i practice hovering until i move to foward flight?

Yes. It gets easier. You have to progress as fast as you can without crashing. Flying inverted is easier for you though.

M8 all I can say is take it at your own pace, I've been flying my Blade since September, and I can only just hit forward flight now, let alone anything more ambitious like loops or stall turns.

It's about enjoying it, and if you end the flight with a big grin on your face and the heli intact, it's defo been a good day.

I think we all go through the will it ever get n e easier lark and TBH it does get easier the longer you do it .. As for progression ... As long as each time I take my heli out I come home with a grin on my face then I know its been a good day , whether the heli is still complete is a diff story.. If I choose to hover tail in all the time and dont do n e thin else at the field then thats my choice and no-one elses as this is a hobby and not a race .. I seen too many people that can't even fly a nice smooth circuit trying tic-tocs and TBH n e on can bang a set of sticks about .. Now learning to fly a heli properly first gives you a nice sense of achievment at the end of the day ...

All orientation hovering right way up ... lazy eights ... loops .... rolls.... inverted all orientation hovering .... inverted circuits .... backwards flight .... inverted backwards flight ... when you can do all this then try 3D if you wish .... As long as you feel comfy with each step then move onto the next ... the more stick time you get in as well is always a bonus ....AND above all enjoy it its a hobby !!! .....

Mike is (as usual) absolutely spot on. There's a good few stages of learning and at the moment, you're conciously competent at the tail in hover, you can do it but need to concentrate to do so. If you liken it to learning to drive, the first few months while you're learning, every gear change is a concious effort. Now though after being driving for 11 years I don't even realise that I'm doing it, I've become unconciously competent at it. Mike's saying exactly the same thing, practising as much as possible will accelerate that learning curve and the satisfaction of doing it properly will be all the greater, keep plodding away at it and soon it'll just 'click' into place and you'll be away.

I'm having lessons with an instructor and the progress went:-

              1. Tail in hover in front
              2. Tail in hover 20 ft to your left and right
              3. Side on hover (both sides) in hover in front
              4. Side on hover (both sides) hover 20 ft to your left and right.
              5. Smooth lazy 8's without losing speed or height

Haven't mastered 5. yet so haven't progressed further!!!

Instrucutors view is that you should try and master all orientations before going for anything fancy on the basis that as soon as a move goes wrong, you need to be able to control the heli back into a safe "known" orientation - sometimes this can't be nose-in...

              Hope this helps
