Hi, and welcome to the forum ... as for a micro heli to buy as first a heli like most will recommend .. a contra heli .. Or if you wanna jump right in then a Blade 400 CP heli wont do ya wrong ... It comes down to how much you want to spend and also whether you want a heli that looks like a heli . If you read through the beginners section of the forum theres loads of info and also the same question you just asked ...You will also need to purchase a flight sim if you dont wanna whack your heli the first time you fly it .. Also you need to be aware that at some point you will!! crash so bear that in mind as well ... Not trying to put a dampner on stuff , its just the amount of people that think they will fly a heli and ohhh that looks easy when they take alot of time and effort to keep in top condition and even then you can still dumb thumb it lol ... Whatever you decide I hope you enjoy the hobby as much as most of us do ...

Hi gary and welcome to the forum you have found a great place to hang out
As mike says you really want to start with a contra heli like the blade mcx or the blade cx2 but i would recommend buying the bind and fly version and getting a seperate spektrum dx6i tx as this will last you for many more helicopters this is the road i went as im a relative noobie only been flying helis six months and im hooked

        Cheers Jim

For clubs you could check out the BMFA website

          http://www.bmfa.org/clubs/clist.php

And as for shops ... theres a whole host of them ... Some of the best shops we have are on the internet .. Click the links to the shops on this site ... my fave seems to be Fast lads as they always helpful and also quick at getting stuff to ya ...Theres a few others on this forum further down your way so they might be able to help you with a local shop to go have a look around if need be ... Also dont forget .... if you flying n e thing you really need insurance so join the bmfa .. its £28 and well worth every penny

Gary no probs a contra heli is one with 2 sets of main blades spinning in opposite directions where as a normal heli has one set of blades and a tail rotor if you go for something like the mcx you can buy 2 versions one with a transmitter which is only really any good for that heli but if you buy the bind and fly version and a seperate dx6i it will work the same but you can use the dx6i on many other helis

              Hope that makes sense Jim

                  Hi GAry

                  Welcome to the forum.

A contra heli is one with 2 sets of main rotor blades that spin in opposite directions hence "contra-rotating". These are good beginner helis as they are much more stable than the single rotor types. Examples of contras are the Blade CX2 or the Blade mCX.

Bind'n'fly is a technique that allows you to use the same transmitter for more than one model. So, the transmitter has a separate memories for each model and when you set it up, you have to tell the transmitter to talk to the specific model's receiver - this is known as "binding"... the advantage of this is that I have 3 helis and a simulator, all of which fly from the same transmitter... it means you can buy the "bind'n'fly" versions which do not include the transmitter which are a bit cheaper and you don't have unused transmitters lying about!

Some provisos, You can't bind any transmitter (Tx) with and receiver (Rx). As far as I know, generally they have to be the same make (i.e Spektrum won't bind to Futaba) and they MUST be the same frequency band (i.e 35Mhz won't bind to 2.4GHz)

I'm sure there's people with more info that will chip in, but hopefully that's a starter! Keep reading all the earlier posts as most of the newbie questions are there and there's lots to learn, but keep asking if there's any other questions you have..

Do plenty of research before buying - a common maxim here is "buy once, buy right!"

                  All the best

It depends where abouts in essex you are. there are a number of clubs and shops around some catering for helis others not so.

as has been said really depends where you want to take the hobby, I would suggest getting along to a club that flies helis take a look and have a chat with the locals.

Im near southend, Jason(JiberJaber) is in Chelmsford, Kwickkwack is up near Colchester and there are alot of others around and about in essex.
                      All the best
