    Hi all,

My fiancee bought me one of those £10 helicopters for christmas and I must say I'm addicted.

I'm now interested in taking it to the next level. I was first going to buy a Trex 450SE but have thought that would be mad so probably going to take the plunge tomorrow and buy the CX2. Seems to be the wise choice.

Anyone have any better advice or would that be a wise thing to do?

    Thanks

    Paul

An MCX is more suited to indoor flying although the CX2 is great but a little bigger.
I think a SIM such as phoenix is also a good investment.
Welcome to the hobby and the forum.

      Hi,

Yes i've been reading about Phoenix? Do you connect the transmitter to the computer?

        Hi Paul and welcome!

The CX2 is a good starter heli and if you can stretch to it, buy the Phoenix simulator as well - it works with the CX2 transmitter and will teach you huge amounts without crash costs. You can fly that 450 and then have a huge grin when you deck it within seconds, knowing its cost you nothing!!

The mCX is also a great starter heli and is ideal for whizzing round the house-much more controllable than the little 2 channel jobs, and easier to fly than thne CX2...

Either way, you'll have a lot of fun!!

          Hi Heli,

Thanks for the advice. I really want Phoenix. I have an iMac so not sure if its for PC only. I looked at the MCX but thought the CX2 would be slightly more challenging and hopefully in a few months I can move on to the 450 SE

Just looked on the website. It will work but will need to run Bootcamp which basically lets me run windows programs on the mac. Something else i will need to look into.

So it seems like getting Phoenix to work on my mac is quite involving. Would I be mad to buy the CX2 and just practice with the real thing or will I crash it as soon as it leaves the ground?

I reckon you'd be OK with the CX2 without a simulator.
they really come into their own with the single rotor CP helis which are much more difficult to fly!!

Welcome to the hobby, why not find a local club and see what flying heli's is about.....contra heli's are great fun to fly indoors but these can give you a false sense of security....... imho the heli hobby is one of the most expensive hobbies to take on, but has to be one of the most rewarding one's........take your time, listen to advice, buy right the first time........

Well i'm hoping to sell this in a few months and be confident enough to fly a 450 SE or Blade 400

Well I got my CX2 today and I must say its a lot harder than I thought. Battery didn't last that long maybe about 6-7 mins so back on charge now. Started to get the hang of it as the battery started to die. I think i'm going to become quite obsessed with heli's. I love it.

Superb little heli and welcome aboard from another newbie.

I must admit I went the same way as you and, whilst I have no regrets, on grounding my CX2 due to a part I couldn't get, I bought a bind and fly mCX. It's a great little heli and so suited for flying indoors. I'm finding it great for getting orientation down.

However, I just rebuilt my CX2, balanced the blades and levelled the swashplate then flew her out in the garden (a very still and cold day here). It was such fun!

                              Thanks.

I've never had a heli before so haven't got a clue about balancing blades and stuff I just hope I don't crash it and have to get involved in replacing parts but I suppose I'll learn more from replacing parts.

I've been using mine in the garden today too. It's actually a nice day for it. My house is too small for beginners flying. I'd definitely crash it. I'm hoping to move up to a Blade 400 in a couple of months
