  • Hello Guys, pls help, advice required.

    Hello guys,
I'm new to the whole r/c heli scene, and i'd appreciate a little advice.

Basically i impulse bought a century uk 2.4cx airwolf, for no particular reason other than i loved airwolf as a kid.

I got it a couple of weeks ago and the missus let me open it for xmas.

Hurrah! however 30 seconds after my first flight i binned it. 2 new blades required.

I went to my local hobby shop and the gentleman sold me some new blades.

I have 2 batteries too now. But after numerous crashes my fuselage has seen better days and i feel as though i should have purchased the spirit which was only £10 more. as theres less to break and the spares seem to be very reasonable. Also the spirit comes with a metal head system.

After some practise i have figured the basics and now can trim out the heli fine, and today managed to get it onto the dining table and am much more confident.

However previous crashes have damaged it and im now out of blades.

So im thinking, the metal head upgrade £20, the motors £15, and a fuselage £23, should i just go and get the spirit?? Or am i ok with what i have got. I'm not crashing as much now and feel confident. Or can anyone reccommend anything for around the £150 with a decent spares list which are reasonably priced?

Any ideas or comments are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks and kind regards Indy.

p.s. my local dealer is ps hobbies york.

I didn't get on with the spirit personally. My gut instinct is to repair what you have and then ask "where to you want to go with this?" If you want to move on to bigger and better things then you might want to move towards a blade 400 or similar. If you want to stick with micro helis then there are plenty to choose from.

well you're right i dont think im ready for anything big yet and dont want to spend a fortune. Mines doing the trick where if i adjust the throttle trim left like you did it stopped the top blades.

But once you fire it up and use your right stick and push it in all 4 directions it does stop that from happening. Just thought the metal head would be better. Is the blade cx2 good ore are there better kits for the cash?

Both the CX2 and MCX are great contras.
For flying around the house the MCX takes alot to beat.
Very stable and easy and fun to fly.
        Cheaper too!

Adrian's spot on - either the CX2 or mCX is great fun.. The mCX is easier, whilst the CX2 is slightly more challenging plus you can use the transmitter with a simulator which is an almost universally recommended tool by most on the forum... Phoenix is still the preferred choice (I think!) despite some recent reports over weaknesses in the current version

          All the best

one thing i would say is that u could get a dx6i and bind and fly mcx and your on your way
then you can look at the bigger model such as blade 400/trex 450 etc. and you could still use the dx6i! (bonus)
and between this as others have said a sim is always good to have
i own phoenix and i dont have any problems with it

              cheers

well i ended up getting a century spirit, by god its so so much better than airwolf and i havent bust it yet!.

                  Very happy with it.

Looked at the blade, did like it but in the end the century swung it for me, just seemed much better built and parts were more reasonably priced imo

Just a quick update for the site. Still very happy with the spirit. Very stable flight and i can pretty much do everything with it, i think it may be time for the next step up. Neon Blaze? Blade 400? Mini Pred? Opinions please, and a sim?

Cheers for that mate, if i get the phoenix wim will it work with my century spirit transmitter, as the transmitter comes with a lead with 3.5mm jack

If it's a 3.5 mm jack then probably. But even so I'd still go for Phoenix even if you have to get a cheap tx to fit it. For the heli defo go for the Blade when ready, she'll give you good practice and once you can fly her she's small enough to take to local parks (bylaws permitting), but go with someone who can act as a pair of eyes for you, so that you have time to land and pack up if anyone gets within a certain distance.

The smart money for buy-once buy-right is on a blade 400 ' cos it has a cracking radio which will plug straight in to Phoenix. If you need to spend less then the mini pred is better than the neon blaze because it has a shaft driven tail and now comes with a 2.4GHz radio. That said, the preds now cost £200, not the £150 I paid so it's dangerously close to a Blade 400 at which point it's a no-brainer: Blade 400 every time. And I speak as a mini pred owner, but only for the next week or so!

cheers si, i went to my local dealer, and they had a mini pred in stock. its the 150 non 2.4ghz one at 150 and tbh no offence it didnt wow me, the quality aof build i thought was poor, but yiu get what you pay for, what is the sim like?

Do you think i should hold out for blade 400 and the phoenix sim, i know its going to cost me a bout 400 inc training car and spare battery but am i better off doing this?
