  • Honey Bee FP and the future...

    Hi
I am a Newbie at this and have recently got an E-Sky Honey Bee FP. I am having difficulty flying it in my living room and am trying to find an indoor place to fly it (the wife gets twitchy about some of the "near misses"!).

Are there any clubs locally to me (NE Surrey) that anyone knows about? Also, thinking ahead, what is the next step? I have heard a lot abot Trex and 400s etc.

Finally, I am looking at getting XTR and a radio - probably a Futaba 6EXH. Is this OK for XTR and use with a bigger Heli when I get better at flying or would a different radio be better?

Sorry for all the questions! :?

for a club i would start looking here http://www.bmfa.org/clubs/clist.php

as for the next setp you need to know if you are going to sitck with indoor flying or go outside..the cost of a trex is not far from a raptor 30

If you're going to buy a transmitter I'd get at least 7 channels, it's worth buying the best you can afford, Futaba FF7 or 9 are popular though I've never used one - I bought a JR9X and never looked back.

Reflex XTR is a good idea, get youself to your local club and see some IC helis, Trex is a great heli, but as a beginner they are very breakable and though cheap you'll spend a lot on spares - I speak from experience!

Lots of clubs up your way, if your closish to Farnborough then Graham at http://www.helicopters-online.com/ runs an indoor meet for helis, the next one is on Monday 13th March - lots of people with good knowledge of electrics there.

the 6exh "works" but thats about it.

the 7c, 9c and JR 9x are much nicer radios with a price tag to match. Easier to use and more flexible allowing you to set the model exactly how you like it.

before you buy anything its worth going to the local club and seeing what they fly as most of the time its them that are going to be helping you. Also before you go spending big money i suggest to people to spend an hour at a flying school it gives you a great insight into flying helis and what is required of you and the equipment.

          didn't I say that?

I guess I've reached a point where what I say is not only correct, but useful too.

            Hi Guys
Thanks for the help so far.
Farnborough is a fair distance for me so I'll have a look on the BMFA website.
Ouch! Just seen how much 7ch & 9ch radios are - with XTR as well it's a lot more than I can afford. I may have to settle for the 6ch.
As for training schools - good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I'll look into it a bit further. Anyone know of any training equipped clubs near Gatwick??
It seems I may have to convert the living room into a soft padded cell (not sure whether for me or the heli )
            Cheers

You could get youself a cheap, very cheap radio off eBay I mean on you'd never transmit with, just to use on Reflex then get a proper one later on, else get RealFlight G3, same price with a radio included.

There was a chap on here who saw a bloke in Leatherhead else if you fancey a day out then Ade does a bit of teaching in between breaking stuff in Dorset, a fair old hike but worth it, he's got a good heli and not a bad instructor - I'm not far from Haslemere and I go down when the Mrs lets me.
