  • First Heli: Blade MCX or CX2

I'm a total newbie and based on other threads I've read am intending to start of with a Phoenix sim together with a coaxial, counter-rotating heli to learn the ropes. I'm considering a Blade CX2 or MCX, but would appreciate some advice on pros and cons. My thinking is that the CX2 may give the option to progress, in time, to an intro to outdoor flight whereas the MCX may be too light to be realistically used outdoors. On the other hand I'm guessing that the MCX can be flown in a smaller indoors area.

    Thoughts & experience gratefully received.

You got more chance of flying a cx2 outdoors thaen ever flying an MCX. However bear in mind its winter and because of that id choose the MCX as its great indoors. The only true couch flyer really. It has a better gyro, is more stable, spares are silly cheap as well as batteries. Bloody great fun.
    Cheers

Lee is spot on, was sitting on the sofa last night forward and backward circuits, bit of chaos, ok maybe not the last bit but , they are good.

as I said in another thread today I had a cx2 but it was actually too big for my rooms and I never used it so I sold it
      All the best

I would say that neither heli is going to be any good outside so both are realistically indoor helis.
The MCX is just that bit more suited to our normal size rooms I think and is probably the better choice unless you live in a mansion or have a relatively large room.

Yes, the cx2 needs more space but can't be flown outdoors unless there is no wind which means practically never. I found it easier to fly a Twister 3D Storm outdoors rather than a cx2. The mcx survives a crash better than a cx2. I'd advise buying the cheaper version (BNF) without a tx and get a separate DX6i for it and the sim. If you buy all three from the same place you'll probably get a discount. Paying any less money is a waste of time. All three things are in demand and if things don't work out you can sell them on this forum for a good price. You'll find it difficult to decide wether to fly a scale Apache on the sim or a real heli like the mcx. You'll probably find things difficult if not impossible to begin with. All you have to do is keep trying. I doubt if you'll ever stop learning.

            Welcome to the forum!

Good advice here - Would agree completely having been down the contra route. I have both mCX and CX2 and rarely fly the CX2 now - I prefer the mCX at home - neither compare to the proper CP helis for difficulty though.

            All the best

I opted for the CX2 as I thought it would marginally more stable outdoors on still days. I have a huge(ish) garden - roll on the Blade 400!

I would have probably done the same but I already own a Twister Storm 3D and a Raptor 30 for use outdoors which means the mCX is a perfect size for me to use when indoors.

On advice received here I bought an McX and a Dx6i. I've been flying it arpund a large-ish living room and it's amazing. So stable that after minimal trim adjstment it just hovers perfectly static without input.

A really user friendly newbee combo.

                    Thanks

You just cant beat the mCX, it's so easy to fly, even in a small room.

I had a go with the McX in the local shop yesterday and was amazed how easy to fly and controllable it is. I fly my CX indoors at times, but the wife does complain about the noise and the cat aint to impressed either. I may even sell my Blade as the McX looks a better thing to fly in the house to me, and in all honesty would get more use.

Totally agree with that, I can't see me flying the CX much now I have the mCX. I think I will still fly it outside on calm days but for indoor flying theres no contest.

BTW you could always save some money buying the Bind n Fly version and use the CX TX
