  • BNF Blade MCX but which transmitter?

    Hi All,

I've seen sense after reading all the feedback to my earlier posts and having done some more research. I realise that the Blade MCX may be a better heli to learn the craft on than a single rotor heli (even if it is very pretty).

However rather than buying the package with transmitter, I'd be really grateful to hear if people thought that I'd be better off buying a better transmitter then using it for future helis and sims.

If so, is there a recommended transmitter? The Spektrum DX6i seems good and affordable, I realise that I don't need that many channels for the Blade MCX but I'm trying to future proof and ensure that I've got something that'll work well in the future.

    All advice gratefully received.

Thanks for your patience with all these questions.

    Ben

the dx6i will serve you well ben. But where do you want to go with the hobby? 6 channels is ok for electric.or nitro with no engine govener dx7.. 7 channels for nitro if you want to run an engine govener. or again 7 or more if you want to go scale and have "extras like retractable u/c etc.
the mcx is a fun little heli ,and very easy to fly the dx6i is perfect for it and sim use

Know where you are at Ben. I picked up an excellent DX6i on here for the right money - it's excellent quality and future proof.

I know I have a MCX bnf lurking in my Xmas stocking.

Keep your eyes peeled they do come up for sale.

I have the DX6i and can recommend it. I got it with the Blade 400 and use it to fly all my helis as well as Phoenix. As a beginner it does all you'll need and more. The DX7 is without doubt a better radio but is a lot more expensive...

I would stick with the DX6i... Who knows, the DX8(!) may be out by the time you need to upgrade!

The mCX is great fun and well worth the cash.

              All the best

Pretty sure the DX6i is the same as the DX7, it's bought on a fixed mode, either 1 or 2 and cannot easily be changed. I've never seen mode 4 as an option

Erm sorry to be thick, what does the post above mean?

Will an McX BNF work with the spektrum Dx6i?

Will I then be able to bind future helis to it (to a maximum number 5+?)

The dx6i has 10 model memory which means you can bind 10 models to it

as above above never heard of mode 4

I tried to order from one company but their website wouldn't accept London as a valid county address. In the end I gave up and ordered from SMC (Sussex Model Centre).

I haven't named the first site as when they called me today to respond to my questions posted last night they said they were aware of the problem and that it'd been fixed. They seemed on the ball and listing them here may act as criticism that they don't necessary deserve.

SMC were very helpful and discussed the spares I'd ordered suggesting that they'd been tying to break the McX for a while (mostly unsucessfully). They actually talked my order value down, a pretty good sign IMHO. They've given me a suggested delivery date next week.

Hopefully the McX is a relatively simple, light heli and therefore quite durable.

BTW someone asked where in London I'm based. Ans: North London near Finsbury Park and Manor House tubes.

                            Thanks
