Think I might be struggling to still see even a Rappy 60 at around 1 mile out 8O

You are better off building it yourself and getting it checked over once you've built it rather than having someone build it for you other wise you will struggle when you need to fix it. You will need to fix it as well at some point I guarantee it ops:  :?

        point taken on the range...

the problem is i am no engineer a graphic designer yes. An engineer NO!

If you give me a shelf to put up from Ikea i could easily do it. Upside down. If you see my point.

Now when it comes to fixing something that is broken and i have seen it fully built then this is not a problem!

Its up to you! i would like to buy my next Heli' from someone who has the experience to help me in the early stages.

I got the Minicopter from Modelzone although the manager is a cool guy he knows jack about flying... not much help!

These helis seem complicated if you are not in the know but once you get started they pretty simple, the tricky bit is getting the transmitter and gyro set up.

Ade offers a good service and training. People shy away from the Raptor 60 to start with, most recommend a 50, I just got a 60 and much prefer it.

Sceadu 30 Evo (with OS 37) for learning - then upgrade it to a 50 (with OS 50 Hyper) when you're ready.

The 50 is simply the best value for money model helicopter about. It has as much (if not more) power to weight ratio than all of the top 90 sized machines, and is only a fraction of the price.

The thing about this hobby for most of us out there is that it has to be disposable income, and there is a big difference between the cost of setting up a 90 sized machine with powerfull, fast digital servos, a Curtis pipe and a pumped engine against a 50 sized heli with some sensible ball raced servos and a good engine.

A good 50 sized heli such as a Sceadu Evo will give breath taking performance, and do it much more nimbly, than a very expensive 90.

ok thanks thats the type of advice i need... i want to go into heli's as a serious hobby. I have tried everything else and it all seems tooo slow and boring i.e Flying planes(real ones), Paragliding, car racing etc etc

I need something to get rid of my spare(bored) time.

When you talk about an upgrade from the 30 to the 50 is it an engine change?

Would it not be better for me just to go for the 50 with mods and crach kit straight away?

Ade can you give me some guidence and a quote for a fast and nimble but yet still an easy copter to get off of the floor.

as others have said the cheap route is often the expensive route in the long term. Get one model that will last you. Crashing a 30 isnt much different to a 50 and although fuel consuption is a higher a 50 is more stable than a 30.

i would go with the sport package of the knight 50

although i need to update that slightly as the futaba 3152 servos appear to be more accurate for the same price.

Sceadu 30 or Raptor 30 to begin, then upgrade to a 50 when you're ready. Both machines are ideal learners, and then very very capable when fitted with a 50 sized motor.

Up-sizing involves a new engine, new main gear, main shaft (maybe) and bigger blades. You can usually buy the whole lot as an upgrade kit.

The most important thing about learning to fly is the availability of spares. The easiest way to check this out is to do a search for 'helicopter' on ebay and see what comes up - you should see about 50% of the items listed are Raptor helis and parts. The other 50% is everything else. I'm not suggesting that you should buy from ebay, it's just and excellent indication of what is popular out there.

I have a personal preference for Hirobo kits, but appreciate that the Raptors are very good value for money and very capable machines.

I learnt to fly with Shuttle Plus (which in hind-sight was a mistake) and now have a Sceadu 50, Freya 70 and a have just started flying a JR Voyager 30 as well. The Voyager is a lovely heli, but is a lot of money for a 30 sized machine - ie you get what you pay for!

I take it all back about the minicopter although for anyone thinking of buying one it is unstable and cannot be flown even by a pro in your living room. This is advice from a pro(not me)
