  • what 6ch heli to chose ?

hi everyone im kinda new to the scene, i've hadmy heli for a while now and i wanna upgrade my 4ch hummingbird to a 6ch, i think im gonna go with the dragonfly 36 or the t-rex 450xl, is there any other heli to this kinda spec anyone could recomend. also i wanna consider the ease of getting spares on-line and, and the motor must be brushless, no seprate motor for the tail rotor.
    thanks mart

The favoured indoor heli these day's appears to be the T-Rex 450. Any reason why you wantt o stay on electric. Have you considered going to a .30 or .50 IC. It would cost you just about the same and be easier to learn on.

Just to add, if I was going to try an eletric again I reckon the Ikarus Viper 70 look's very cool.

well my freind had just bought a dragonfly 36 and i kinda want to stay on the same learning curve, tho i will 100% buy a nitro heli in the future i've got nitro cars/trucks and it can be high maintence, im enjoying taking a break from freezein outside yanking a pullstart to simply pluging in a battery and waitng 40-60 mins

The TREX is definatly the weapon of choice for most small heli flyers - its basically a minatre electric Raptor 30 which is why it is so successful i suppose.

I wouldnt go anywhere near the walkera haivng heared some of the horror stories of how bad the electrics are. The Viper70 looks good, but it is much more expensive then the trex to buy and for parts, and there are a huge array of upgrades for the trex, and not for the viper.

I am considering a Trex 450XL CCPM as my next heli.

my experience of the walkera stuff is equally dismal apart from 1 fixed pitch one which wasnt so bad...

the hornet 2 copy i flew was nasty.

I have flown a bunch of t-rex's and once setup with decent components the do seem to fly nicely.

Trouble is those components equal the cost of a similarly spec'd raptor 30! Summer is coming so temperature wont be a problem soon (I hope!)

                Hi
Listen to Ade his advice is well worth it.

As he says summer coming and well small electircs are just
no where like the Raptors of the world.

Raptor (or other I.C Heli)= 10 times easier than machines like Dragonflys.

Plus it wont need upgrades to fly unlike most other Kits the Standard
                Raptor flys easy as that.

Sims - They help out a LOT you can write off 1000's of pounds
a day without bending your flying heli. Get a half decent Tranny
with the sim would save you later on.

Eaxmple the futaba 7c is well worth the 130 price and when you goto
helis with it you won't need a another Tranny for a while.

I had to stop using Sims but I'd always recomend one.

T-rex kitted out is 300 - 349 plus it needs upgrades to make it
                actually fly even better.

Raptor can be bought with Tranny servos gyro for 399 starter kits
add 100 for field equipment 499 its the better deal.
(okay trannys basic and servos are but to learn it wont matter)

I am looking for a T-rex to add to my fleet for indoor club flying.....
But it wouldnt be my 1st Heli to buy 1st time round that would be the
                Raptor.

                    Hi
                    check BMFA club list here:

                    http://www.bmfa.org/clubs/clist.php

Find a Club that has a strong Heli comunity if you can
or be prepard to drive a distance to a Good Heli Club.

Beware of Ebay: Good deals can get you a Raptor that needs
new bearings.. total strip down rebuild -new- parts becareful
a few people have been Bitten by these eBay Helis looking good
and then costing another 10-100 pounds to sort out once bought.
Happened here to a local guy.

I dont recomend buying a used heli unless you know what your looking at or get somebody who knows to have a look at the heli. Buying from known pilots can also be a way to go.

beware that most budget packages dont include a lot of things... Blatent plug I know but this is a good honest package.

This question gets asked lots on this forum and its always the same answer..go nitro. But the simple fact is alot of people and that includes me start with a cheap fixed pitch heli (walkera 4ch) yes they are hard to learn on but with help and practice not impossable and parts dont cost the earth.

I have had a lesson on Ade's knight and i have been bitten by the bug and plan to get a raptor one day but until then where do i go ? the 4ch wont keep me going for ever and a Trex se costs the same as a nitro and im not spending that on a micro...so i could be tempted by the dragonfly 36 (PLEASE DONT FLAME ME)

my reason,, it will keep me going and will give me something to learn with without breaking the bank until i gan get a nitro heli, I know it not the best but is a stop gap. The only thing I would do is ditch the Tx it comes with and get something better then when i go nitro I will have a good transmitter already so i have spread the overall cost.

Save the money and spend it on lessons.

Cheap micro helis fly like pieces of crud compared to the more expensive ones and IMHO are a waste of money. It wont help you to learn to fly if its incapable of decent flight out of the box, it will just add frustration. I know I went theu 50+ sets of blades on a CP Picc

"We" know that the micros are hard to learn on and less stable. My point is as long as people understand this and as you say have lessons i dont see a problem with messing arround with the heli's and enjoying this as a hobby. Some people will eventualy go nitro some wont.

What 'You' maybe dont know is that cheap Micro helis are imposible to learn to fly on

I learnt the hard way until I got a Decent Micro heli that flies out of the box with no troubles.

What I am saying is if you dont want to spend the money on a decent Micro heli then you really may as well just go burn a bunch of twenties, it'll be about as much fun as trying to make a piece of crud fly
