I brought second hand raptor 30 off Ebay (although it turned out to be a forum member) and I learnet to fly on that with the aid of pheniox sim it was a rocky road but I got there.
I have since sold the raptor but only to make way for something newer and better. Although I regret selling it as currently I only have a trex 450 and I pine for the nitro. (fingers crossed for Xmas)
If I were to do the whole thing again I would only change that fact that I rushed things and I should have practiced more on the sim first before trying it for real and getting it wrong.
I am no expert at this hobby and only fly sports and not 3d yet but I have only been flying for a year and a bit.
Thanks

Sorry, no I dont still have my first heli, I did teach myself to fly though, but sold it (a Concept 30 SRT) a few years back, although it served its purpose, it was a pain in the ass to maintain, especially when spares started to get harder to come by.
Having said that, in a way I do miss it.
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I saw a raptor 30 v2 on ebay, i was really tempted but the other half bless her turned into a more formidable Raptor so i didn't bother, it went for £255, grrrrr, still roll on xmas as they say, well done for not crashing NG & RH
I bought, built and tought myself to fly on a Raptor 50 - then killed it by flicking into idle up with wooden blades!!!! Heli looked like it exploded I kid you not!! Now a member of Dorset Model Helicopter Club, 10 months on and totally submerged in this addictive hobby!
I still have the shuttle I bought 10 years or so ago, though I'm not flying it right now.
Nitros are much bigger thus much more stable, but the crash costs are far higher. IF you have somewhere to fly it, and someone to partner you on a buddy box I think it would be a fine way to learn. If not I think that 450's are a far cheaper/ safer way to do it.

All the same, welcome to the best hobby the missus doesn't realise the cost of.

Bought a Kalt Baron 28 off ebay, learned to fly on it and still have it although it doesn't fly as my friend stripped the gears in the tail gearbox, flew lovely though
It gives me a funny feeling when i see aircraft with bits missing so they can't fly, like in museums where the display aircraft have had their engines removed get a new gear for it

have we got a version of this forum where all the prices are 10% of the real price
I started to learn to fly myself with an MFA Sport 500 but only had real success with a Kalt Cyclone 50. I don't have either now, not after 20 or so years, but still have the remains of a Schluter Junior 50 in the shed somewhere.
